Gunsmith for Ithaca 37?

Post by deanimator »

I've got an Ithaca Model 37 DSPS riotgun that was my first modern firearm.

Now that I no longer live in crackerbox, a long gun is a reasonable defensive tool.

The gun had some feeding issues the last time I shot it thirty years ago, and also needs to be refinished.

Is there a smith in the NE Ohio area (Cuyahoga, Lorain, Summit, Medina counties) that could check the gun for function and make any necessary adjustments or repairs?

I've considered sending it to Ithaca, but until recently had neither the time nor money.

Thanks.

-Soda straw and peas
-Sharpened pencil
-Newspaper roll
--water balloon (*diversionary*)

I'll have to take it somewhere to shoot it to confirm.

As I recall, it seemed like it lost control of the shell during feeding into the chamber. Either that or the shell retainer wasn't retaining.

Back around '84, the part that retains the shells in the magazine tube broke and I replaced it. It's had issues ever since.

I M not from NE OH. Don't know any qualified smiths , whether real shop or home shoppe. Can't help w/ refinish

But I have seen/ am aware of the mag tube itself being the problem with feeding shells. A detailed cleaning was a fix. That particular 12ga hadn't been shot in decades.

Sorry can't be of more help!

I need to find some place to shoot it that's not an hour drive away.

Stonewall allows shotguns, but I stopped shooting there going on twenty years ago when I got guns pointed at me there twice in ten minutes.

I think the place in Berea MAY allow shotguns.

Before the fire, I lived in a cramped dump for twenty years.

Now I actually have enough room where a long gun is a practical tool of self-defense, but between the move and trying to get everything (especially books) unpacked, I'm just getting around to addressing other issues. The rioting has added a certain amount of impetus to improved self-defense capabilities.

I’m a member at Gun hub in Sheffield Village. They allow shotguns, but only with slugs. They used to allow buck shot, but that changed last year sometime.

Did that used to be the B&T range? If so, I took my first CHL class there.

B&T is now called B&D. They’re located on Grove Ave in Lorain.

Gun Hub is on 611 in Sheffield Village not far from the police station.

Yes. Per google maps, Gun Hub and Backpacker Shop are 1.9 miles apart. Same road.

I went there today after a trip to Menard's.

I'll probably go there to zero my AR with the new upper as soon as the rest of the parts come.
