Ever wonder about barrel length vs. muzzle energy?

This is where you can talk about all equipment issues; firearms, ammunition, magazines, care & repair, holsters, gun cases, etc.

Ever wonder about barrel length vs. muzzle energy?

Post by AlanM »

I don't know if this has been posted before, I just ran across it and thought I'd share.

The site has tables muzzle energies of different caliber firearms, varying barrel lengths, and available ammo.

Also effects of barrel length and cylinder gap on revolvers.

They, of course, list all the firearms used in their tests.

I find this one fascinating, particularly since someone on Quora asked if there were ever any revolver action rifles.

I suspect that my 30+ year old 1911 wouldn't do well with some of the .45 ACP ammo they list.

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
