Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
Does anyone own the Phoenix HP22A. If so, what's your opinion? Anyone dealers in the Central Ohio area selling them?

What about the deluxe range kit?

Re: Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
Yep! Wifey has one........
We like it a lot. Reasonably accurate, easy to maintain, very reliable, well enough made and cheap to buy and shoot.
Kinda heavy for it's size for the wifey to carry in a pocket holster but could be done.
Standard velocity 22s are easy enough to find most of the time as the manufacturer recommends using them we do most of the time but have used HVHPs often with no issue yet.

I used to have one, liked it a lot. So did a buddy, so much so that I gave it to him so he didn't have to borrow it any more. Fun to shoot, didn't seem to be picky with ammo. Also had the "target" barrel.

Re: Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
My ticket got picked for one of those in a gun raffle many years ago. The thing actually did function well with most high velocity ammo. In those days I believe the guns had three different manual safeties. The company has been in litigation a few times due to the guns going off when they weren't supposed to. But I don't know how many of those incidents were mechanical failure versus human stupidity. Looks like the current Phoenix has only two safety levers, eh?
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

That turned me away from them, the high number of safeties. I would get one in the right place, then try to remove the magazine, then move another safety, at times it became frustrating.Brian D. wrote:My ticket got picked for one of those in a gun raffle many years ago. Re: Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
We just us the hammer as a safety and when dropping the hammer on a live shell we use the firing pin block and point at the ground.
Really pretty easy to forgo the third safety.
IMO can't beat the pistol for the price for plinking fun.

Re: Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
I really liked mine at first... but I will say it is/was finicky with ammo, and as soon as it hit exactly 500 rounds it stopped firing. I took it to the range on a Friday put 100 rounds through the pipe, took it home and cleaned it, then on Saturday I took it back out but it wouldn't fire. I detail stripped it to check for excessive oil/lubrication in firing pin hole and to make sure the firing pin wasn't damaged or any broken springs. Everything looked good. This was about 3 months ago, and I've tried firing it since to see if any excess lubrication that could have gotten in there had dried but no luck.
I've tried getting ahold of Phoenix but their customer support leaves quite a bit to be desired, and they have to answer the phone/respond to me so I can send my pistol in for warranty repair. Right now mine is essentially a 1lb. paperweight.
Granted, I may be the unlucky guy who just got a lemon, but my suggestion would be to go with a pistol from a more reputable brand - I've even had better luck with Taurus (but I've never shot or owned any of their rimfires).

Dumb question: Are you sure the firing pin block is not engaged? Kinda strange it would stop firing altogether just by cleaning it.Greg the baker wrote:I really liked mine at first... but I will say it is/was finicky with ammo, and as soon as it hit exactly 500 rounds it stopped firing. If you send it back or find the issue let me know what happened if you would Greg.

That's what my first thought was since it's got multiple safeties. But no, all were off.Gramps wrote: Dumb question: Are you sure the firing pin block is not engaged? Kinda strange it would stop firing altogether just by cleaning it.

Re: Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
Thanks for all the advice. It looks like I'll have to do some more research but for about $130 it doesn't sound like too big of a risk in the purchase.

If you are looking for a fun .22lr gun, check out the GSG line of 1911's at ATI. I have had the full size GSG 1911, and still have the GSG 922, which is a 3" 1911 also in .22lr. They are a total hoot to shoot, and mine have been very reliable. They cost more than the HP22 but you will enjoy it more.

Plus there's a small "Mom & Pop" business in Lancaster,Ohio that sells many updates for them. I've added some to mine. And still want to add some more.techmike wrote:If you are looking for a fun .22lr gun, check out the GSG line of 1911's at ATI. Re: Phoeniz HP22A Opinions
I already have the Colt-Walther-Umarex 1911-22 and 10 extra magazines. It shoots real good; especially with the CCI Blazer ammo. As a matter of fact; it shoots pretty good with about anything I feed it but the Blazer ammo is what it prefers.techmike wrote:If you are looking for a fun .22lr gun, check out the GSG line of 1911's at ATI. It's too bad I don't own a CSG/Sig 1911-22.Tru-Heathen wrote:Plus there's a small "Mom & Pop" business in Lancaster,Ohio that sells many updates for them. I've added some to mine. And still want to add some more.

Their photo gallery page is nothing but pure gun porn and I had to go take a cold shower after looking at it.
