Stealth Gear USA IWB Holster

Post by Southwest134 »

Just curious to know if anyone else here has (if is aware) of the IWB holster from StealthGearUSA.com

It's breathable, unlike a leather holster for the warmer weather...

Looks like a cross between a CrossBreed SuperTuck and N82 Pro. If appearances are any indication it should be great for year-round, not just warmer weather. If you pop for one we'll expect a review.

Looks comfy-er than leather. Might have to get me one. Thanks for posting the link as I had not heard of them before.

I've considered one of those as well, eagerly awaiting your review.

I hope to have it tomorrow or at the beginning of next week and then I'll post my first thoughts of it and then a followup review after I get some quality carry time in with it

So I did receive the holster and upon first impressions, its awsome and very well constructed and has a great design!

After a few days of carry I have noticed one thing that I disliked: The kydex was NOT properly centered against the backing material, thus allowiing the bottom lower left of the frame/slide area on my S&W M&P 40 compact to be exposed and (potentially) rub against my body.

I did contact Tyler @ StealthGearUSA to inquire about this and see if it was just a simply mispositioned one I received or what. From our discussion, we indicated that when the kydex was positioned and mounted, its to allow for a full and naturad grip high on the backstrap so that the backing material won't interfere with the grip. I indicated to Tyler, that the holster I received could be "tweaked" and allow the full slide area to be centered on the backing material AND STILL have the full proper grip. His response was that we would have to check into seeing if whomever is mounting the holsters is incorrectly positioning it for this specific model firearm.

Asside from that, this IWB holster is AWSOME! It's very comfortable and the padding is great. I obtained this holster specifically because of the design of the backing material to allow it to be #1) breatheable and #2) its padded

I dislike the "traditional" holsters that use only leather to ride against the body, because this holds body heat (especially on warm days or when working alot) and it can become uncomfortable.

This design of the backing material allowing it to be fully breathable is far superior, in my opinion, to any other IWB holster design currently on the market. I like that it uses kydex, so that it holds its shape and doesnt collapse, as do the full leather IWB holsters that don't use a hybrid leather/kydex design; and this IWB holster SOLVES the breathability/body heat problem that typically accompanies the traditional leather backed IWB holster designs!

I'm gonna continue to review and evaluate this IWB holster, especially as the warmer tempatures arrive in spring/summer, but I would definately reccomend this holster to everyone whom wants to carry via the IWB method.

I'll post any additional review followups are appropriate.

Thanks for the update. A question; would you look at the sight channel on the holster & give me your opinion if there is room to accommodate a set of aftermarket night sights ?

I ask this because on another forum I frequent, there was one poster who ran into this issue with TruGlo TFO sights and the kydex portion of the holster made by a different company. Here's a link to that discussion:
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-s-discu ... lster.html

I have those sights on my XDs & so far it's not been a problem with my other holsters. I am hoping that holds true for the Stealth Gear holster. I realize one could heat the kydex & reform it to fit,but for the money I'd sooner not need to do that modification.

Thanks, I went to their website shortly after my previous post. By looking at the way their kydex is formed it appears to me it shouldn't be an issue.

FOLLOW-UP:

So, after some carry time with this holster now since I've had it I can say that it is an absolutely awsome design IWB holster and IS totally comfortable for EDC, regardless of weather (thus far) and clothing slection. I hope to further evaluate this holster when the summer temps are finally here, but so far I'm totally satasified with this holster design and #1 is its comfort for ALLDAY carry. I even ordered additional holsters for some of my other makes/models. But, I believe that this is by far hands-down the best design for an IWB holster that is comfortable for EDC

Also, I did get to spend some quality range time with this holster. I found that the holster is a comfortable and easy draw AND reholster. Unlike other IWB holsters that use full leather that collapse after draw, the hybrid design with the kydex holds the guns area open for easy reholster.

The holster does use adjustable height belt clips made of spring steel. I kept mine at the factory selected "middle" carry depth option and found that I am very happy with the depth position below my beltline. One note: as this holster can be worn at any position around mid-line at any "o'clock" position, I found that it is an easy and comfortable carry at any position, however the end user must practive a few reps of draw/reholster to find that "sweet spot" of which "o'clock" position allows for the most comfortable dray/reholster alignment of the users wrist to the angle of the holsters draw angle. I found that mine is most comfortable just slightly behind my hip line, but each user can experiment with there desired carry position and most comfortable draw position to find that most comfortable sweet spot for use.

Final thoughts: If you are considering IWB or are an avid long-time IWB carrier, I strongly urge you to try this revolutionary design IWB holster and FEEL the comfort!
