When, oh when, will I learn?

Post by revred »

I called a bunch of places today looking for AA #9 powder. It's not a common product so I let my fingers do the walkin'. I thought I had gotten lucky, Vance's said they had 1 lb. bottles for $19.99. I packed up the wife and away we went. When we get there, they've got the usual huge crowd and It took 20 mins. for them to call my number. Finally, they do and I go up and ask for the AA9. The guy says he'll have to go look in the "cabinet". He comes back and says, "We don't have any." "But I called about an hour ago and was told you had some in stock." "We don't have any." "I drove an hour, 40 miles through traffic, because I was told you had it." "We DON'T have any. Number 68!"

No apology. No checking with any else to see if they knew where it was. No attempt at trying to satisfy a customer. I should know better. This is the 3rd time since 1986 that I've said I will never set foot in that hellhole...this time I mean it. In '86, I was shopping for my very first handgun and went to Vance's. It was truly uncanny that the sales associate managed to insult my taste, my concerns, and my budget in ONE sentence.(Strike 1) In 2001, I went in to shop for some archery supplies. NOBODY at the archery counter but me and the guy behind it and he tells me I have to get a number before he'll even talk to me.(Strike 2) 80 miles round-trip, over 2 hours of my time, and $15 for gas because they've got people working there who aren't smart enough to look at a shelf and be able to tell if a bottle has a "9" on it!(Strike 3) I've always gotten good service at Buckeye Outdoors, but considering they're under the Vance's umbrella, I doubt that I'll give them a dime in the future. I know losing my $1-2K per year won't put them under, but it'll make me feel a darn sight better to spend it elsewhere...ANYWHERE.

I like to use One Shot in Newtown (A little SE of Cincy).
Knowledgeable staff, fair prices and a $30 transfer fee.
They don't seem to mind of you hang around and chat for a while either...but post election, they've been a bit too busy to chat.

Just found them about a month ago after looking for a new dealer to work with. So far I have nothing but praise for the way they do business.

Are these open to the public? Do either of these offer rifle ranges, or just pistol?

Both are open to the public. They are indoor ranges. I don't know about the rifle part of your question.

Good
Stalkers in Champion
Slugmasters In leavittsburg
Shooting Star firearms in New MIddletown

Bad
Miller rod and gun in Struthers

The American range in North jackson is great, open to the public w/ 8 lanes I believe
Two things to keep in mind, do not take credit cards and not open on Fridays. They also sell a few guns there(small selection of hand guns) cheap, but again cash only.

Is there a dealer in the Cincinnati area who is cheaper than Shooter's Supply in Loveland? These guys may not have the huge selections that Target World or Bass Pro have, but so far I haven't been able to find anyone in SW Ohio who can beat or even just match their prices.
It might be the "second" amendment...but protecting it should be our FIRST priority.

For some reason, I thought Shooting Star was closed. :?:

My wife and I belong to New Albany Shooting Range. I would definitely recommend it. It's always been a great experience for us.
