The VCDL 2020 Lobby Day series of posts.

Post by AlanM »

The Virginia Civilian Defense League had a massive "Lobby Day" to let the Virginia state legislature know their disapproval of the anti-gun legislation that had been proposed.

The Lobby Day 2020 was a peaceful gun rights protest that took place on January 20, 2020 at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond, Virginia. The protest was an extension of the Second Amendment sanctuary movement and was organized by the Virginia Citizens Defense League.

At this point in time the first three of six articles have been published with the history, events, speakers, and results of that Lobby Day. I'll add links to the others as they are released.

There are many photos of the crowds of people that arrived from all over the country.
New outlets estimated and reported the turnout at 22,000.
Frankly I think that number is low.

This post covers the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement that occurred in Virginia after the 2019 election that led up to the 1/20/20 Lobby Day.

Upcoming parts in this series on VCDL's Lobby Day 2020

Part 2. Preparation: as the expected Lobby Day attendance skyrockets and VCDL's infrastructure is pushed to the limit, panicky gun-controllers attempt to minimize the rally or even get it cancelled altogether!

Part 3. The cage: more last minute deterrents created to slow down or stop Lobby Day. Courts take a spineless position on violations of state law by the Governor

Part 4. Lobby Day 2020 arrives and the deterrents failed: an eye-popping, 100% peaceful event, with a massive turnout of patriots determined to save the Commonwealth from tyranny

Part 5. Postscript: the positive effects of Lobby Day 2020 on the upcoming 2020 and 2021 elections, gun-control bills in the General Assembly, and the perception of gun owners in the press

Part 6. Lobby Day 2020 articles, blogs, photos, and videos: wall-to-wall coverage of that historic event!

I hate to sound like "that guy" but what did it accomplish?
The democrats control it all and they passed 90% of what they wanted.
Hopefully it raised awareness enough that next election cycle there will be changes.

The Left are crowing about the anti-gun successes they had in VA this year.
Virginia Democrats made gun violence prevention a central campaign theme in the 2019 election. Legislators finally listened to the voices of voters and we delivered.

That's the only thing that will stop the madness. Sadly, with northern Virginia becoming more and more a suburb of the DC swamp I don't see that happening soon.

1. Woke people up / organized them.
2. Proved ability to do peaceful demonstration (eliminated some of the demagoguery).
3. Placed pressure on a clean sweep of the contest.
4. Demonstrated a willingness to stand against the Statehouse, which will embolden local officials. (Different than showing up at commissioners meetings)
5. Smoked out the CPZ order and the arbitrary rule that they maintain ("credible threats" nonsense, see #2.)

This is the same concept as saying Ron Paul never got anything passed...yeah, that may be true, but the platform has value even if total victory isn't instantly achieved...

Here's a link to the fourth in the series.

Buried in the text is a link to a Lobby Day video.
Here it is. Notae: it's about 30 minutes in length.
