On May 7, 2013 at 10:51am the Warrenton Police Department (WPD) was sent to 336 S. Main Ave. in Warrenton in reference to an intruder being in an upstairs apartment. The intruder was known to the residents and told them he was armed with a gun. The residents (19-year old male, a 46-year old female, and two teenage females) locked themselves in a bedroom and called 9-1-1.
The residents continued to speak to Astoria Dispatchers while the police responded. As officers from the WPD, Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, and Oregon State Police arrived and were taking tactical positions the male subject broke into the bedroom and was subsequently shot by one of the residents. Officers then entered the apartment, secured the weapons and residents, and then rendered aid to the male subject until Medix and Warrenton Fire Department personnel arrived. The 39-year old male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. . . Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them."
- Thomas Paine
