FREE TO GOOD HOME: 20# Propane Tank (1/2 full) Weber Coupler

Post by evan price »

This was given to me by a guy at work who found it at a house he bought.
I have a 20# propane tank with the Gas-Mate II quick-disconnect coupling valve.
THIS IS NOT the standard QCC-1 type external thread style that 99% of newer gas grilles use.
The coupler is a spring-loaded ring with a socket inside, like pneumatic tools use.
I am told that certain Weber grilles used this style of coupler.
The coupler is made as part of the valve and can't be changed without a new valve.
It IS the newer OPD-style valve so it is OK to refill & iirc the tank has a current certification date.
It's half full of propane. Not sure how much. May be more.
Not worth it to me to buy the adapter to use the propane in the tank because I would never use this style coupler again.

Why not just take it in for an exchange? Most stores do not even look at the old tank when you do an exchange. Then you could have a back up tank for yourself.

I have 11 tanks already, and this one has probably $12 worth of propane in it and the exchange places don't credit yo ufor the gas in the tank. I figure if someone can use it, great, otherwise, I'll take it out to my buddy's place in Crawford county, stick a road flare on the valve, and blast it with my FAL.
