Issue one in 2023

Post by M-Quigley »

I was wondering if anyone knew why citizen related ballot issues always seem to want to modify the Ohio constitution instead of an issue merely being a new law or repealing of an old law? Anybody know the answer?

To make undoing it much tougher, maybe?
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

It also partially bypasses the Ohio legislature and governor and is a direct vote by the people if the initiated amendment process is used.

It's ridiculous we have 172 amendments, including amendments for specific operations such as casinos (Article XV, Section 6). The specific language of that amendment should never be an amendment but a legislative process.

Agree wholeheartedly, which is why I'm voting Yes on Issue 1, and advocating that others do likewise. We know that certain well-funded out of state interest groups are trying to enshrine certain things in Ohio's constitution, including a provision that would end Ohio's gun law preemption in 9.68.

Just read an article in Columbus Dispatch about how most of Ohio wants more gun control. As per usual, people they interviewed don't know the current laws. I don't want their clueless hand re-doing the Ohio Constitution.

Casino amendment is my poster child for why Issue 1 should be passed. Passed with 52.99%. I would say it would be easy to find 3% of those people with buyers remorse since they did not get what they expected. It is also a great example of outside the state parties getting what they wanted, something the anti-Issue 1 people claim a "no" vote would prevent.

All yes, yess and yesses.

I AGREE the ''special carve out'' provisio for one business style.
Acquisitions thus far:

-Slingshot
-Butter knife
-Soda straw and peas
-Sharpened pencil
-Newspaper roll
--water balloon (*diversionary*)

Yeah, I'm that good

Speaking of casinos, have you heard of a website with the best bonus offers and quality games? The specific language of that amendment should never be an amendment but a legislative process.
The initiated amendment process in Ohio allows for direct democracy, where citizens can propose amendments to the state constitution through a petition process, bypassing the traditional legislative route that involves the state legislature and governor.
