From just after the 2016 election...
JustaShooter wrote:Keep in mind, most of what he has said he wants requires changes to law, which means congress must act. Removal of gun-free zones? Congress. Interstate reciprocity? Congress. Removal of suppressors from the NFA? Congress.

But, one could say he *has* acted, since as I understand it he put on hold any rules and regulations put in place by the previous administration that have not yet taken effect, and I believe that includes the changes to add certain SSA recipients to the NICS database and possibly other RKBA related rules and regulations.
Now "Brand R" has a perfect villain in the Dem led HoR keeping them from advancing the agenda promised to voters in the 2016 campaign. The talking points and excuses have already been cast for 2020. Imagine all the investigations and allegations, the absolute gridlock (unless the GOP caves to Dem demands as they have done so many times in the past)...

Do we recall the previous excuses that lead to the 2016 GOP wins: "We (GOP) don't have the Presidency." "We (GOP) don't have the Senate." Now "We (GOP) ain't got the HoR." Each of these implies that the GOP doesn't hold the proper authority to enact the agenda. They had it for a few years, and squandered it.

So much for the excuses of being impatient, Obama screwing things up, give them some time, POTUS can't go it alone, etc.

Pro RKBA voters got nationally used and abused by the GOP from 2016-2018 (the 2017-2019 Congress, if you wish). Keep it 100.

So, does the lame duck get into gear? Somebody has to have suggested it, right? At least now, on the defensive guard, the GOP won't let any more anti RKBA measures get enacted, right? (Think Positive.)

Wait till ATF enacts the final bumpstock rule later this month, adding insult to injury.

POTUS says the midterms set up dealmaking and spins it as a positive (don't read this article if you're a proRKBA voter)
In other words, had we kept — and this is no — I’m saying this for a very basic reason. It’s common sense. It puts us in a very tough position. We win by one or two or three, and you’ll have one or two or three or four or five, even, come over and say, “You know, look, we’re not going to go along with this. We want this, this, this,” and all of sudden, we — we can’t even — we wouldn’t even be able to get it, in many cases, ohttp://www.ohioccwforums.org/viewforum.php?f=9ut" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; of the Republicans’ hands before we sent it on to the Senate.

And now, we have a much easier path, because the Democrats will come to us with a plan for infrastructure, a plan for health care, a plan for whatever they are looking at, and we’ll negotiate.

And as you know, it’s been very hard in the Senate, because we’ve — need, essentially, 10 votes from Democrats, and we don’t get those votes, because the Democrats do really stick together well. I don’t agree with them on a lot of policy, but I agree with them on sticking together. They stick together great.

So now, we go into the Senate, we don’t have the 10 votes, and what happens? It doesn’t get passed. Even if it gets out of the House, it doesn’t get passed.

So under the new concept of what we’re doing, I say, “Come on, let me see what you have.”

They want to do things.
Yeah they do!

Part of what the HoR will want to do is this...
Gun control advocates are planning an aggressive legislative strategy when Congress reconvenes in January. Working closely with key lawmakers, they hope to use the new Democratic House majority to force votes on a raft of reforms that have been blocked repeatedly by Republicans—including expanded background checks, funding for research on gun violence, and a so-called “red flag” law designed to keep firearms out of the hands of people who pose a danger to themselves or others.

SNIP

And despite the GOP’s firmer grip on the Senate, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), one of that chamber’s leading voices on gun reform, says he isn’t giving up hope. Tuesday’s results, he told me, might force Republicans to reevaluate their political calculus; he noted that the gun debate played an important role in the defeat of Republican Sen. Dean Heller in Nevada, where the deadliest mass shooting in US history took place last year. “Given that responsibility will be wholly on the Senate, does he want his members to own the failure of the background check bill—especially after the only Senate Republican incumbent who lost, lost in part due to his opposition to gun safety measures?” Murphy says.

They can try, but they'd be wasting their time. They can waste time on all kinds of stuff that will never pass. That's less time they have to try to impeach Kavanaugh, Trump or anyone else that dares stand up to their bullying ways.

We just have to make sure they don't steal the senate, which at this point is a possibility. FL, GA, CA and TX all have "voter irregularities" of some stripe or another. We need to stay vigilant.

California House Representative Kevin McCarthy was elected to the position of Republican House Minority Leader by his caucus on Wednesday morning.

McCarthy had already been serving as House Majority Leader, but the impending loss of the House Speakership by the GOP means that Minority Leader will be the most powerful Congressional position held by House Republicans.

Many had wondered if McCarthy, who was presented as the heir apparent to Paul Ryan for the speakership in the event that House Republicans had managed to maintain control of the chamber, would face a strong challenge from a Freedom Caucus member of the House GOP. McCarthy did in fact face competition for the role from Freedom Caucus stalwart Jim Jordan, but easily beat down the challenge, winning the support of House Republicans for the position in a landslide vote of 159 to 43.
The Swamp retains power in the HoR.
Consequences incoming.

Yeah, but they can block judges, cabinet members, and SC justices. And the AG slot will need to be filled in 200 days.

This is B-E-A-utiful

More Christmas presents from POTUS!

So, POTUS commissioned a School Safety Commission after Parkland, don'tchaknow.
Well, they have a recommendation to make their gun free zone safer!
And the hits just keep on coming from the Trump administration. Yesterday, the White House released the end results of its School Safety Commission findings. As

“The Commission endorses Extreme Risk Protection Order laws, which give authorities a temporary way to keep those who threaten society from possessing or purchasing firearms.”
Let us not forget that Little Chrissy is for this also.

But, at least it's not Hillary! Trump 2020!
Merry Christmas!

The Commission also recommends arming selected volunteer teachers and we know that's not going to happen on a nation wide scale so maybe the other recommendation won't occur, either.

 Of course it will. That recommendation (ERPO) puts more power in the hands of government.

Trump realizes now, a bit late in the day, that his thoughts of a second term in Office, in 2020, will be undone if he fails to deliver on that oft repeated promise. Just as importantly, Trump made abundantly clear, during his campaign, that he is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment. But, what has Trump done to merit his supporters’ continued devotion? So far, two years into his four-year term in Office, we see nothing concrete.

SNIP

Were these just vacuous words, delivered merely to appease supporters at a singular moment in time, and then to be dispensed with once the U.S. Presidency had been secured and when political expediency seemingly required? Apparently, so.

SNIP

We will remember McConnell’s disservice to the American people for failing to hold a full Senate Floor vote. And we will remember Trump for failing to make national concealed handgun carry reciprocity legislation a priority goal. Republicans controlled the Congress—both Houses—along with the U.S. Presidency, from 2016 through 2018. Republicans have now lost the U.S. House of Representatives. The Second Amendment right of the people to keep and bear arms took a backseat to both health care and taxes. It should not have, but it did.
A few may remember, the rest will be busy cheering the bump stock ban and ERPOs.

I'll admit, I've been pretty tough on the current POTUS.

I've not given him a lot of credit for his list of "accomplishments" and I've generally been a skeptic.

What I'm about to say is not to diminish any of the previous criticism, please understand.

If it takes this man getting on TV to cause a porn star to start folding laundry like a lady....get a female senator into her own damn kitchen offering her husband a beer...there may be some hope for the trajectory of the nation.

I agree that Trump deserves criticism for his stance on bump stocks and red flag laws. I believe that, not being grounded in a gun culture, that he seriously does not fully understand the issues and tends to put his jaw in gear without consulting appropriate advisors. A regrettable tendency, but it is what it is.

Trump has been under siege since before day one by an unholy alliance of Democrats, journalists, talking heads, deep staters, anarchists, village idiots, and other assorted swamp rats who share the common goal of undoing the results of the last election. If they are successful it would present the greatest threat to our country since the civil war IMHO. I believe this battle for survival of the electoral process is sucking up all the oxygen and energy in the swamp. I really don't expect any significant movement on 2A issues unless and untill the current insurgency is under control. If the swamp wins we will definitely see movement on 2A issues but I guarantee we won't like it.

Well put, Don! At this point, not losing any more ground on 2A issues is as good as a win, considering the climate in swampy DC. I'd prefer that Trump keep focused on the bigger picture--getting rid of the graft and corruption, restoring the rule of law, and preserving American Liberty--then we can work on undoing the mess of the past 8 decades.
