Delaware City Council seeks change to gun sales

Post by Curzyk »

Saw this from Ohio Carry's FB page and they indicated that they would be drafting a letter.

Headline: Council seeks change to gun sales at fairgrounds
Link: http://www.delgazette.com/top-stories/6 ... airgrounds" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Excerpt:
Delaware City Council approved a resolution on Monday requesting the Delaware County Agricultural Society begin requiring background checks for any private gun sale made at the fairgrounds. The resolution passed by a vote of 5-1, with Councilman Kyle Rohrer abstaining from the vote.

Most, if not all, sellers at the fairgrounds would not be able to conduct a background check from their vending booths, something Pijanowski confirmed and expanded on when questioned by Rohrer.

“(The resolution) would essentially ask the fair board to say no private sales at organized events,” Pijanowski said.

Rohrer lobbied, to no avail, to send the resolution to a public hearing that would include the Delaware County Agricultural Society Board of Directors and anyone else who might want to weigh in on the topic before it was voted on.

City Manager Tom Homan took it a step further, recommending that if the resolution weren’t voted on that night, additional steps should be added to expand council’s range of involvement.

“The students are looking to the city for leadership,” Homan said. “They’re looking at their elected officials and saying, ‘What can you do?’”
So basically the only opinions that matter is the students?

How many school shootings were there were the gun was purchased at a flea market?

Good example of why ORC 9.68 needs enforcement teeth.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Keep in mind this was a non binding resolution passed by the Delaware City Council. The city council has no authority over the Ag Society.
Ignorant or Stupid, I'm not sure which is worse. If someone were stupid, at least they'd have an excuse for all the dumb things they say.

Pass the Peace Pipe I need another hit

IANAL and neither are most people on this board, its just shows more with some than others.

DCAS shoots down firearm resolution
DCAS President Don Howard, reading from a prepared statement, said, “Our executive committee, in consultation with our counsel, extensively reviewed all applicable state and federal laws and found that our fairgrounds comply with all regulations that are required by law. It is our highest priority to continue to follow and uphold the law.”
From the statement above I am pretty sure they were told by council they could not do it, but that didn't stop them from saying they would have done it if there was a practical way to run the checks.
Howard did acknowledge had there been a way to conduct background checks at the time of the private sales, the executive committee may have reacted differently.

''Keep in mind this was a non binding resolution passed by the Delaware City Council. The city council has ...''

I've been through this all before even with close friends. The most sure way to be non binding is, follow a good daily fiber regimen, drink lots of water, and avoid self imposed stress.
Acquisitions thus far:

-Slingshot
-Butter knife
-Soda straw and peas
-Sharpened pencil
-Newspaper roll
--water balloon (*diversionary*)

Yeah, I'm that good
