I renewed mine in Seneca County last year and did not have to provide any certification.

I got mine on 12/22 from Union County. I handed in my app on the 11th. Pretty easy to work with and friendly. They will usually will mail it to you unless you ask to pick it up at the station.

In process with my renewal through Geauga county, where I got my original license.

Very straightforward process, and it was well documented what to expect on the sheriff's website.
  • - Bring in filled out renewal application (link to Ohio page with PDF is given)
    - $50 application fee, with types of payment accepted and other types not accepted
    - A notation that the proof of training certificate was no longer required for renewals
    - Bring in a SASE with two forever stamps if you wish your new license mailed to you
Once I was in the process, the officer also told me the state seems to get back to them within a week or in four weeks, and nothing in between. He also pointed out the current license would be good for 30 days beyond the expiration. He then handed me a card and said to call the office/number listed if I had not heard back from them in a reasonable time.

Overall a very easy and positive experience. I can only imagine my own county (Cuyahoga) would be the complete opposite.

And I fail to understand how some Sheriffs can do same day renewals!

Apparently what they send back weighs more than 1 oz.

And I received it today and it certainly wouldn't require two stamps. It weighed a total of 0.4 oz and only had the license in a sleeve. :?

What is the fastest County surrounding Crawford? Was going to renew mine today but they don't take applications on Monday.

Went for renewal at Butler county - My appointment was for 10 am on Thursday, took about 15 minutes. I asked how long the lead time was, and was told about 2 weeks.
I had my license on Saturday. Very pleasant surprise that it only took 2 days including mail delivery.

Ashland County.
Called & made appointment as my schedule is kind of complex.
Went in, filled out the app, paid the fee, quick and easy in an out.
The young deputy who took care of me was pleasant, personable and laughed politely at my poor attempts at humor.
All but my reply to his question as to how I was doing, I told him "I just got off the fifth of five midnight shifts. That scrapin' sound you hear is my back side draggin'."
Something tells me he's stealing that one!

Another great experience at Wayne County: Renewal appointment on Monday at 3:40PM, in and out in 10 minutes, license in mailbox when I got home Wednesday. My one and only complaint: My picture makes me look like a serial killer. I think it's all in the clerk's technique - "Take your hat off - look here - click!" - all in the space of about a second. No "Ready?" or any other warning. I mean, I get it - he's taking tons of pictures a day... But still.

Wednesday I renewed in Clermont County. No appointment needed, hours are 8-4 Monday-Friday. Plenty of free parking. Clerk said renewal could take the entire 45 days, but I think they exaggerate so applicants don't call a week into the wait. Nowadays they even mail out the licenses, and provide the stamp and envelope at no additional charge.

For years their website has reflected exactly how the process works.
