It seems on the surface to be a surprising verdict given the extremely limited information in all of the news sources I could find, but I'm sure what came out in court was more detailed.
A shooting at the McDonald’s on S. Main St. happened about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a Dayton police report.

Police were sent there after shots were fired during a fight between two men.

Mark Karan Brooks, 22, was arrested and booked on an aggravated felonious assault charge. He told police he was jumped in the drive through by someone he didn’t know.
The victim, Chaunsee Foster, was inside the restaurant when police arrived, and told them he knows Brooks. He explained the two have known each other for some time, and they’ve been fighting since Foster took his girlfriend.

Foster told police he saw Brooks inside at the counter and approached him. Brooks told Foster to step outside so they could fight. Both men went outside, and according to Foster, Brooks shot him during the argument.
