Many of hte purses I have looked at have a velcro panel that you affix the cheap holster to. I don't see any reason you couldn't purchase a decent retention holster and affix it in the slot for the pistol.
I played with some of the Safariland retention holsters in Atwells police and Fire in Painesvile, and was surprised how EASY it was to draw the pistol from those retention holsters with just a little practice once you knew how the mechanism operated. Certainly faster than trying to operate a key lock on the zipper. I wouldn't write it off as an option
