wifes "HOT" words!

Post by razzle »

My wife said the hottest thing to me she has possibly ever said after 24 years of marriage. You ready? She said "she wants to get her ccw permit so she can carry a firearm". She said this on our way back from Louisville today. I about jumped out of our suv when she said it. She works for a company that buys homes that have been foreclosed on and then they flip them. She asked me to go with her today to take pictures of a few cause about half the time they are in some questionable neighborhoods. On our way back she said to get her signed up for the class cause she knows I cannot go with her all the time. She has never been in the ccw mindset but from where we were at today she finally seen the need. One of my dreams have come true. My wife finally wants to carry some protection. Just thought I would share this. Now time to sign her up!

Cool! We had a person in our last class that has the same job and wanted a CHL for the same reasons. It is understandable in that line of work.

Good for her! I got my wife to take the class. I got her to fill out the application. She even got her own pistol (Glock 19). But I haven't quite gotten her to actually pull the trigger and turn everything in yet. Ugh...

My girlfriend raced me to get our permits, she got hers before I got mine :(

She doesn't have her own gun yet, she carries my G23 sometimes.

Today she texted me a picture of the new Sig 938 and said she likes it. Uh oh.....

The wife and I took our class this past weekend, went to the gun show on the way home and got her a XDm compact in 9mm for her carry gun, we go to the medina county sherrif's office tomorrow to submit our apps, and are going shooting this weekend so she can try her new gun. It's great once the wife decides to get involved, i used to have 2 hand guns, since she has deicded to join in, we have bought 4 more guns since christmas, i now have a gun cabinet, and a nice little supply of ammo building up.

Good for her recognizing a need, due to risks. Next problem is a way to carry and be readily available. A firearm in her purse or in the vehicle is of little value.
More and more ladys are seeing the need and the "Blood in the street" agrument is/has be disproven. Police depts are hit with fund issues and people are realizing that the 911 call where "seconds count and possible help is minutes away", is a reality.

My wife and I took the CHL class together a year ago. I got my CHL fairly soon after that. My wife procrastinated and one of her main reasons was, even though she had been through the course, "I don't fully understand the laws and responsibilities and I don't want to carry until I do". I told her that is a nice, responsible attitude, but just because you have the CHL doesn't mean you HAVE to carry yet. She has since learned what she needs to know and she got her CHL 2 weeks ago.

We are both attending the Utah class on Saturday.

Congrats !! It's nice when they come to the decision, even if it's in their own time.

I got my CHL in 2004, it wasn't till last year my wife said she wanted her CHL, She even wanted to pay for the class herself. Then she hopped on the bandwagon and got her PA license as well, since her parents live there. Finding a firearm for HER was a bit more of a challenge, she can shoot all of mine but didn't really like any of them so a borrowing and a renting we go until she finally decides on a S&W M&P 9c after shooting one at the range. Now that we had a decision I bought it for her for Christmas and made a holster to go along with it.

Another recommendation would be to get her a copy of the Cornered Cat. (there is also a Website ) a book geared towards women who carry, it covers many topics and issue that women may have that men don't. Difference in the shape of our bodies and how it relates to carrying concealed for instance.

She has also agreed to go to an advances handgun class with me this summer, which is great, because the CHL class and time on the range really isn't the same as quality training.

Glad your other half is joining the fold :)

I know exactly how you feel. My wife was never truly anti, as she grew up with a father that hunted, but she had a moderate aversion to handguns because of an incident when she was younger. I understood that and respected it. I offered at different times to take her to a range to learn to shoot my handguns and she always declined. My theory was that she at the very least needed to know how to safely handle any weapon that I own just so accidents don't happen and in the event of a home invasion she could use one well enough. She agreed but never went to actually learn with me.

I'm not sure what changed her mind but now she wants her CHL and is interested in open carry as well.

I now have three handguns, all of which she has shot and is good enough to handle all three well. Accuracy still needs work but she is interested now so that shouldn't be a problem, just a matter of time and practice. We're not all born sharp shooters after all.

It is exciting and HOT when they finally come around isn't it.

ETA.
My biggest problem now is that we can find someone that offers a class that meets our fairly full schedule(oh and not much extra cash). As I work and go to school through out the week with only Thursday and Friday evenings off and she goes to school Saturday and Sunday from 8a to 4p both days. Without someone to watch our son she can go. So hopefully something will work out so she dose not loose interest, though I don't think she will as its also to protect our son and that mentality dose not just go away.

Tell her to keep that to her self with the way businesses are these days they probably would take exception as they value their business more than its employees.

I understand entirely, After I finished my class in nov and was talking to my wife and 23 yr old daughter that never expressed any firearm interest to my knowledge stated she would like to get the training as well. The wife said she would also. After i got off the floor i began searching fo classes for them . The biggest thing is like the poster above said, time away from work and school to fit in the classes. Still looking and since then my sister has also expressed an interest. I cant help but think this is a snowball like thing and we will see more and more "regular" folks attending and CC'ing. A sign of the times or just more awareness of the right, the need, and realization that it is plain smart to do so. Hopefully as more and more get licensed the State will see the need to simplify some of the rules and restrictions more like PA and Utah.
Since I started to carry in early dec I have been amazed at the acceptance from folks and how few places actually forbid or restrict carry. The ONLY time I have not carried is if I am going to have a beer somewhere and a take out pizza shop once. And it didnt take long to not even notice its on my hip anymore, in our class they suggested to carry always even at home so it becomes natural. I use owb holster covered by shirt so i know it is visible sometimes and no one has had any issues with that whatsoever. I do admit first time in a bank (charter one) and I had it , it was kinda strange mentally to know i was in a bank with gun..lol.

Maybe I'm having early morning syndrome again but I can not figure out who this is in response to and what you mean by it.
