Cleveland or Akron Zoo
After reading the recent thread regarding the Cincinnatie Zoo it got me wondering, does anybody know the carry status of the Cleveland zoo or the Akron zoo? I plan on going to the Cleveland Zoo here pretty soon and was wondering if I need to leave my firearm in the truck of if it can join me. Thanks

Re: Cleveland or Akron Zoo
Not sure about Akron Zoo, but the Cleveland Zoo is part of the Cleveland Metroparks. I have not been there since I got my CHL, but CC is allowed in the metroparks. Now since they charge admission and you go through a gate, it might be posted. I searched their website and found nothing pro or anti gun. I am pretty sure there is no hunting in the Zoo.

Rats. I was really hoping for a chimpanzee steak too.Atilla wrote:I am pretty sure there is no hunting in the Zoo.
I've heard conflicting reports on both, so I'll hold out for firsthand knowledge from someone.

I didn't see anything on Akron Zoo's website about rules. I didn't see anything prohibiting carry in zoos either, so I would assume they would have to have a sign to forbid them.

In that you are correct. If they are city-owned, they are mandated to post per the ORC in a certain manner (usually impossible to miss). If not city owned, but Metropark owned, such as the Cleveland Zoo, then the only off-limits places are the buildings themselves (unless it is solely a bathroom). I can't recall who owns the Akron Zoo (it might be it's own organization), thus requiring signs to notify.matthollycart wrote:I didn't see anything on Akron Zoo's website about rules. I've poured over both websites recently to no avail. SWMBO wants to get a family pass so we can go all summer with our baby boy (picture opportunities, educational, etc). Still have no clue either way and don't plan on asking anyone who works there.

The Zoo itself is not posted. However, the restaurant, gift shop, and admin building, as well as first aid are posted. None of the interior animal exhibits I visited were posted (wolf lodge, primate house).

Ok, made my trip to the zoo. From what I could tell the zoo itself was not posted anywhere but any and all buildings including the restrooms were posted. But some food for thought and I started thinking about this as soon as I pulled into the parking lot and saw about 30 school buses. Isnt that if the property has students on the premises for a school function such as a field trip doesnt that make the property a school safety zone and therefore a no carry zone?

...............That is a good question. Also, if it is owned by the METRO PARKS why can't we use the rest rooms ? We can use them in the parks.M50B06 wrote:Ok, made my trip to the zoo. I thought about that all day about the school buses and couldnt really decide but im thinking with all the school kids its a no zone. And I also thought about the restrooms all day, it drove me nuts that they were posted and I dont think they can be-owell I left it in the truck either way.
