Yet another reason for campus carry..

Postby jeep45238 » Sun May 27, 2007 5:20 pm

When I was talking to my parents about my ND, I was told directly, with a straight face, that "I don't care what happened at Virginia Tech, it's not going to happen at UC" by my father. They don't want handguns in the house, but they've got no problem with rifles or shotguns (that makes...no sense).

Today I got this notice via email:

Date: Sun, 27 May 2007 16:50:36 -0400
From:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Subject: [SAFETYNOTICE] Details Released on Shots Fired Incident at Calhoun Hall
To: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To: University of Cincinnati Community

From: Lt. Col. xxxxx xxxx
University of Cincinnati Police

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, University of Cincinnati Police received calls that shots had been fired in Calhoun Hall Lobby. The preliminary investigation shows that four shots were fired near the breezeway doors and north patio. There were no reported injuries. At this time, the shooting is believed to be the end result of confrontations between two groups known to each other. These groups consisted of both students and non-students. All subjects fled the scene. The police were able to make contact with one subject later in the morning. Though we have multiple leads, no arrests have yet been made in the case.

The police are continuing to investigate the shooting and will have an officer stationed in Calhoun Hall through at least the remainder of the day Sunday. If you have any information on the shooting, please call the University of Cincinnati Police at 556-4907 or call the anonymous tip line at 556-COPS.

Ironically, I was in Calhoun Hall today (Sunday), and didn't see a single police officer

My jaw dropped when I got home.

"We read it, but no handguns in our house. When you get your own place fine, but not here."

I'm going to ask my buddy who rents out homes if he has anything come summer time, and if he'll cut me a break by helping collect rent and maintain what I can while in school.

If my own parents are going to have that attitude about a CCW holder due to one negligent discharge towards their son (and ALL of my friends, who all have CCW licenses), screw it (ironically, one of my instructor's assistants had one a week exactly after mine, took out the instructor's water heater). It's my responsibility to find a joint of my own then, and my responsibility to find another handgun when the funds are there (I have to sell mine now to be able to afford college, but I also haven't worked since fall quarter began, my fault on that one).

If anybody wants some poster adults for sheep who live with a sheepdog, it's my parents. Fine with rifles and shotguns, but not handguns. "No, we don't care if a 12 gauge slug is capable of 2,000+ ft-lbs at the muzzle, but your .40 handgun that MIGHT get 440 ft-lbs was never welcome here!" And yes, they think that card access doors and security cameras will stop the violence/crime on campus. Newsflash, but it won't. When our buildings get tagged with "kill whitie die" where we get all our food and guns go bang in the night, no chance in hell.

I'm REALLY thinking about just getting a KelTec and pocket carry, and not telling a soul. Disrespecting their wishes, yes, but it may very well save my life.

I'm liking the PF9, but it might be a bit big for pocket carry (I wear jeans nearly 365 days a year). However, a .380 is better than throwing my backpack.

you might look a used glock 26 for pocker carry, 6in by4 tall. Wear loose fitting jeans and nemesis holster.

My taurus is almost as small :-)

It's more of a concealment around a house that thinks there are no handguns, and some other issues, and I happen to live in that house unfortunately.

Smaller=better this time.

The Calhoun shooting incident was a direct result of a rap concert held in the Student Union.

Nope, still got it. Still carrying the pistol until I find a seller (need the cash for school right now).

Nope. Sold the pistol Monday (the credit card payment for the new computer is due today), so I'm not carrying at the moment (I feel naked). My little knife beats nothing, but I still feel naked.

You ought to start a 2nd Amendment (or CCW) group on campus.

You know, in the interests of "diversity"!

I believe OSU has something similar.

Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)
