Senate GOP pushing National ERPOs

Post by bignflnut »

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) along with support from Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), and Sen. Angus King (I-ME) plans to reintroduce a bill that would encourage more states to enact red flag laws.

SNIP

UPDATE: The bill is now on Library of Congress’ website and is listed as S.7 – A bill to provide family members of an individual who they fear is a danger to himself, herself, or others, or law enforcement, with new tools to prevent gun violence.
This seems like a slam dunk, as there will be certain GOP senators that go along with it, the Dem run HoR will certainly applaud, and we have a POTUS who has already expressed his support for the concept.
STRENGTHENING BACKGROUND CHECKS AND PREVENTION: President Trump supports legislation and reforms to strengthen background checks and law enforcement operations.

President Trump’s Administration is calling on every State to adopt Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs).
The President is directing the Department of Justice to provide technical assistance to States, at their request, on establishing and implementing ERPOs.
ERPOs allow law enforcement, with approval from a court, to remove firearms from individuals who are a demonstrated threat to themselves or others and temporarily to prevent individuals from purchasing new firearms.
ERPOs should be carefully tailored to ensure the due process rights of law-abiding citizens are protected.
Don't worry everyone, we have a great SCOTUS goalie that will make everything alright. That's why we elected not-Hillary, not-Obama! It's all part of the glorious 5D underwater intergalactic chess match. You're not being sold out (How dare you, you Nattering Nabob of Negativity!), this is the path to ultimate victory!

On the SCOTUS goalie:
This is an ominous sign.

Chief Justice Roberts has been sensitive to political criticism of the Supreme Court.

It was widely reported in 2012 that Roberts succumbed to a public pressure campaign from Obama and Democrats that the Court would lose its legitimacy if it overturned Obamacare. Roberts reportedly changed his vote to uphold the Obamacare mandate as a tax, to the fury of the four conservative Justices who wrote a dissent that sounded like it had once been the majority opinion.

When Justice Kennedy retired, and was replaced by Brett Kavanaugh after a brutal nomination fight, it was widely predicted that Roberts would step in as the new swing vote. Thats the role Kennedy played for the last decade or more. Many of the most important Supreme Court decisions, particularly on social issues, turned on how Kennedy voted. It was a Court of One.

Here's a self-admitted (1:50) former gun grabber with a face for radio telling us about how the feds are bribing the states to bring about ERPOs.
