http://www.cleveland19.com/2018/10/31/s ... -midterms/WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Rifle Association — long seen as a kingmaker in Republican politics — is taking a lower profile in this year's high-stakes midterm campaign, a sign of the shifting dynamics of the gun debate as the GOP fights to maintain its grip on Congress.
The NRA has put $11 million into midterm races this year — less than half what it spent four years ago in a campaign that gave Republicans full control of Congress. This year's totals are also far below the $54 million the group spent in 2016 on both the presidential and congressional races.
The shift comes as spending to support tougher gun control measures has surged. Everytown for Gun Safety, a group founded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, pledged $30 million for this year's election, and has continued to put new money into competitive races in the final days. A political action committee formed by Gabby Giffords, the former congresswoman wounded in a shooting, is spending nearly $5 million.

So, two years into Trump...what do we have? Certainly not moving forward like we thought in 2016...remember the Hearing Protection Act to take suppressors off NFA? Remember National Reciprocity? Yeah, we got no bumpstocks and a negative tide against gun owners. The tide is going the wrong way now.
Plus, not much activism on the pro-gun side. Most folks just sit home fat and happy thinking Trump is their buddy while Bloomberg, Soros, Gabby and Everytown get busy.
NRA has been beaten like a rented mule by New York, Delta, Fed Ex et al. Do you really think NRA members who actually boycott are big enough to make a difference. Nope.

Re: Gun control groups outspend NRA this election
2 years after the presidential election and people are still running against Trump and Hillary.
But vote straight R, because the Dems are finally being honest about their intentions to grow government, shrink liberty, give free stuff by taking it from others....keep people focused on what the Dems would do, and forget about the hole being dug by the Rs.
Perhaps in a year, when Trump needs pro-gun voters to be in his camp, he can say more words. We can count the bump stock cases being made against faster triggers, ported barrels, and other components. That should be a lively time.
If the GOP wins the midterms, why will the pro-RKBA voter have his agenda moved forward in the subsequent two years? Is the calculation that the pro-RKBA voter will only vote Trump after the Hearing Act passes? Ha!
The party that's out of power outspends and is more motivated, doesn't that make sense? When Planned Parenthood and other non-Trump friendly orgs get UGE subsidies from the taxpayer, why would they not spend it on lobbying/campaigns? The GOP only has itself to blame for giving these groups their funding.
THAT'S how confident they are that our vote is in the bag, they can directly fund the opposition. And WE'RE supposed to work to take our people to the polls?
Who can deny how good Trump is at flapping his gums? Actions have, as Mr. Glock properly notes, gone against the pro-RKBA voting block.President Donald Trump is the most vocal supporter of the Second Amendment to the Constitution that has ever inhabited the White House.

I was thinking the same thing, when the supposedly pro-gun party is in power we get nothing. When the anti-gunners are in charge we fight to keep what we have. There is talk about how the DNC takes certain groups for granted. I think the GOP does the same with gun owners.

Respectfully, we got Fix NICS, a bumpstock/faster shooting component ban, and a verbal suggestion to “Take the guns first, go through due process second”, which has been enacted by several states, seeing minimal federal resistance.Whirlwind06 wrote:I was thinking the same thing, when the supposedly pro-gun party is in power we get nothing.
While Obama was in office, these ideas were effectively resisted. With a WWE Trumpian Horse in office, the NRA rolls the red carpet out toward further restrictions.
The "plus" column for Trump will include two SCOTUS jurists, both clerked for Kennedy. Time will tell on those two.

Everything you said is true. What is also true is that Trumpism and GOP are two entirely different things. The GOP seems to be closer to the deep state than Trump so there is no united entity for any gun rights people to lobby with. Sadly the game now is to be on the winning side or at least not alienate whoever winds up on top. Unfortunately for us there are simply not enough of "us" to be more than an annoyance when our so called allies are having a firefight with each other.bignflnut wrote:Respectfully, we got Fix NICS, a bumpstock/faster shooting component ban, and a verbal suggestion to “Take the guns first, go through due process second”, which has been enacted by several states, seeing minimal federal resistance.Whirlwind06 wrote:I was thinking the same thing, when the supposedly pro-gun party is in power we get nothing.
