Republicans will be using the omnibus bill to clarify that the Centers for Control and Prevention (CDC) can perform “gun violence research.”
The Democrats wanted a full repeal of the Dickey Amendment, and Republicans demurred but met them halfway by agreeing to make it clear that the CDC is not barred from doing the research.
Capitol Hill sources — and media outlets — are saying that the House leadership wants to include the anti-gun Fix NICS language in the omnibus. But in doing so, they would be breaking their promise to gun owners.
A vote to pass Fix NICS is a vote to kill Concealed Carry Reciprocity
Last year, the House of Representatives passed the GOA-backed H.R. 1181, which would create due process protections for veterans.
But, if the Fix NICS/Take the Guns First language is slammed through on the omnibus, there is NO chance that H.R. 1181 will see the president’s desk.
The bill now contains “Take the Guns First” (Fix NICS) language to send millions of additional names to the FBI background check system.
These will include many veterans and older seniors, plus those with outstanding traffic tickets and medical marijuana cards.
But then there’s more.
Ryan and McConnell were able to convince Schumer and Pelosi to settle for Fix NICS gun control only by offering them ... wait for it ... even more gun control!
I am not joking. Republicans are not only the Stupid Party -- they are the worst negotiators in the world.
Ryan and McConnell have reportedly agreed to repeal the Dickey Amendment. And this means that now, anti-gun government bureaucrats will be able to use your tax money to resume anti-gun “research.”
You may remember that the head of research at the Centers for Disease Control stated that the purpose of this research was to make guns as taboo, dirty, and regulated as cigarette smoking.
Well, get ready for more anti-gun “studies.”
Oh, and, incidentally, the GOP’s “school safety proposal,” also buried in the more than 2,200 page bill, prohibits money from being used for guns and gun training.
So none of the Omnibus funds can be used to arm teachers -- or school resource officers, such as the hero who stopped a shooting at a Maryland school this week.
Cue the GOP cheerleaders. Sell it!
Explain to us all the chess game and how we're not being betrayed.

I'm really baffled on the procedural undercurrents on this. Could it just be, that this current crop of legislators are of such a high I.Q. , like our Founding Fathers, that they all actually read 2000+ pages in mere hours, digested it, discussed, and voted rationally?
Or did they fold up quicker then a wet paper napkin

Trump threatens to veto omnibus spending bill over DACA and the border wall
President Donald Trump threatens to veto a $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress only hours before a government shutdown deadline.
On Thursday, the White House issued assurances that Trump would support the plan.
DACA? Oh, yeah...
In a tweet, Trump said he is "considering a VETO" because the proposal does not extend protections for hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants or fully fund his proposed border wall.
Likely kabuki theater.

Signed sealed and delivered!
Fix NICS is in the books.
Trump says he's signed $1.3 trillion spending bill into law despite being 'unhappy' about it
Trump plans to sign a $1.3 trillion spending bill into law despite a veto threat.
The about-face on a possible veto came a day after White House officials had said Trump would sign the legislation despite his misgivings.
Trump is irked about the immigration proposals included in the legislation.
Betrayal complete
At least we'll get a bigger standing army, that was Trump's consolation to red state America.

Trump may have sealed his fate today. I was a BIG supporter of Trump from the very beginning. I feel almost sick at the betrayal we've seen this afternoon. What happened to the great negotiator? What happened to the man that would never betray gun owners? What happened to the man that was going to build the big beautiful wall? What happened to the man that was going to repeal Obamacare? It's all been a big lie!
I won't be voting for anyone on the socialist left anytime soon, but likewise I won't vote for anyone that betrays me. When Trump's base stays home or votes for independent candidates - he's done! If the Dems get control of the House and Senate, he's going to be impeached. How could he be so stupid that he doesn't understand that? So much for making America Great Again.
Welcome to the Swamp President Trump. You have now officially become the leader of the Swamp!
This bill allocated something like $80 billion for national security and increases in military spending. Trump is going to use the Army Core of Engineers to build his wall. He’s getting what he wants. An Omnibus bill is not a budget. The POTUS can decide not to spend the money.
Don’t give up just yet.

Not that I support the wall (I don't), but for the wall supporters, here is what's in the bill.
It allocates some money for a few miles of fencing (no more than 50 miles), but is explicit that the fencing can't be concrete walls like those prototypes you've seen in the news. It has to be modeled after existing fences on the border.
On the other hand, that military spending you speak of includes half a billion dollars for the US military to secure Jordan's border with Iraq and Syria, including the US military building a 274 mile wall along that border. So yes, Trump and the Republicans in Congress are using the military to build a border wall. Just not one in this hemisphere.
It is always interesting to see people complaining about what the Republicans do, and then saying they will not vote for the Republicans. They say they will vote for Independents, or not vote. What they get is a Democrat who actively tries to remove their gun rights! The last time these "smart" people voted that way "to send a message" we got Sherrod Brown.
Trump did not want to sign the bill, but a government shutdown with a hostile press would have hurt the midterm possibilities for the Republicans.
Yes I prefer fiscally responsible conservatives, but if the alternative is a Democrat, vote for the Republican as it is in your best interest.
Note: The Democrats that run as "conservative, gun supporting" candidates, always vote with their party against guns and fiscal responsibility no matter what they say. My take is that Democrats cannot be trusted to tell the truth about their positions.
Trump is trying, but he does not get the proper support from his party.

Trump did nothing to influence the bill and his administration said he was all for it. It wasn't until a Fox News show he's known to watch complained that the bill made Trump look like a weak negotiator that he made a fuss about it and threatened to veto, but then it was too late since it was already passed. He should have threatened to veto before the bill was passed and stated the terms he needed to sign it.
