NICS checks for terrorists

Post by bignflnut »

Since 2004, as part of its background checks for all potential firearms purchasers, the NICS has searched a file containing a list of known or suspected terrorists that is exported by the Terrorist Screening Center from the TSDB into the FBI’s National Crime Information Center database.

NICS is a failed system. Government databases are the antithesis of the philosophy behind America.

How far is this bit into our mouths, that we accept it's presence and can't conceive of spitting it out?

Is NICS exporting our 4473 info into the terrorist database?

Because that would be bad.

Or is NICS just checking to see if the 4473 info exists in the terrorist database?

I think they are comparing the data from the 4473 against the "terror" list, just like they do with arrest and conviction records.
Problem is , they are not permitted by law to do so.

Is it that they are not permitted to deny the purchase, or not even use the list to see if someone on the terror list is purchasing a firearm?

I believe, from what little I have read, it (the terror watch list) is not an authorized source of information for doing 4473 background checks.
By law, they can only deny a sale under certain conditions, and the watch list is not one of them.
Information relating to a 4473 check that has cleared is supposed to be removed from the FBI's database's in 72 (?) hours.
HOWEVER, ATF keeps a list of what NICS transaction numbers are issued to each FFL , and on what date. They then use that information in dealer audits to verify that the dealer is not creating false NICS authorization numbers on the 4473.
It would be very easy for them to keep tabs on someone's purchases for being on a "list", legal or not.
