Knock off all that Evil

Post by bignflnut »

Trump has saved us all by signing an EO to stop violent crime.
Hallelujah.
As Bloomberg reports, President Trump signs three directives today, including one that will direct DHS and DOJ to “break the back of criminal cartels.” Trump also signs DOJ directive aimed at stopping violent crime, and another DOJ directive to implement a plan to stop crime and violence against police.
Rest easy.
Turn in your guns. (Yes, even you cops)
Violent crime has met POTUS and POTUS has won.
Long live the POTUS.

Simple declaratory statements always defeat violent crime.

So, since the article you posted admitted the actual text of the EOs hasn't yet been made available, you are ridiculing the EOs and denigrating the POTUS without knowing their actual content. Hmm. I see.

Nothing to see here, then, just an agitator exposing his own ignorance.

Yes.
It's a silly article which serves only as red meat to the people who were once opposed to Executive Orders from the Boogeyman but are now all too happy to have them printed in rapid succession. (POTUS POWER is good when it's on MY side)
There is no depth or breadth to the report and one can't form an opinion without the underlying order, as you say. However, some will cheerlead the "action" without any analysis.

It sounds good, and no one wants to be against promoting public safety and reducing crime,” said Philip Stinson, associate professor of criminology at Bowling Green State University. “But it is nothing more than symbolic crime control rhetoric.”

An order on “Preventing Violence Against Federal, State, Tribal, and Local Law Enforcement Officers” directs Sessions and the DOJ to review federal laws to determine whether they need to be strengthened, and suggests as potential methods the defining of all new crimes and the raising of mandatory minimum sentences for people who commit or attempt to commit acts of violence against police. The order does not directly address a federal “Blue Lives Matter” law, versions of which have been pushed by the Fraternal Order of Police.

Another order directs Sessions to assemble a task force to strategize how to reduce crime — “in particular, illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and violent crime.” The task force is also meant to assess the “availability and adequacy” of crime data, and troubleshoot ways to improve data gathering “in a manner that will aid in the understanding of crime trends.”
Tra la la as I agitate and expose someone's ignorance...

I don't see anything wrong assembling a task force to define and find solutions for problems. That's what reasonable people do every day.

So far, he is using them the way an executive is supposed to use them--to organize and manage various departments and agencies. He is not making law or changing law. (And the immigration thing was not either-- that had been done by other presidents, and immigrating here is not a constitutional right.)

It appears that 'Vice News' has replaced 'The Old Gray Lady' (NYT) in Socialism's propaganda apparatus.

I don't mean to change the subject here...but one wonders where we would be if we were three weeks into a Hillary Clinton Presidency. What E.O.'s would she have signed already...and what kind of opposition (if any) would she have faced? No matter what Trump does...no matter how many times he sticks his foot in his mouth (quite often IMHO)...we can always take comfort in reminding ourselves "it could have been...and almost was...President Hillary"

Yep, let's live in November of 2016 anytime we need to feel better.
#AllThatMatters

Forget that the day in November only matters if people do things for us NOW...just remember that we beat Hillary.

(Do you need a sports analogy? Sure you do. Playoff Hockey is right around the corner.
It's nice to be on the power play for a few minutes, but if we don't SCORE, it doesn't matter that we had the advantage.)

He's like the Progressives - he can't get over not getting his way.

Trump has a tougher row to hoe than previous Republican presidents in (a) he doesn't have the in-government experience and (b) he's facing opposition for things he hasn't done (much of which he probably won't do) and that opposition is virulent, dishonest and promoting violence. It reminds me of leftist activities in other countries where they were trying to foment revolution.

Trump has already accomplished a lot, but much of what he says he wants to do will require Congressional activity and Congress is still trying to get his cabinet appointed.

I wasn't a Trump fan, but, so far, I am not upset with him though I do wish he would stay off the Twitter feed a bit more.

I think that everybody on both sides needs to remind themselves that he's only 3 weeks into a 4 year job. Already they're blaming him for problems which existed before he took the oath, and accusing him of failing to do other things. Give the guy a chance, give him time. TBH I wish he'd throttle it down just a little. I mean, yeah there is the usual flurry of activity when a new administration takes the reins, but we cannot keep up at this pace every day for the next 4 years. Even Obama's White House was more laid back...with him being on vacation a lot of the time anyway. And yes, I agree with you that Trump would eliminate half of his PR problems if he just kept his mouth shut and resisted the urge to "tweet".

I guess I'll take Drudge's side of the argument, asking for the results that were promised.

You've got a better chance of getting them than Obama's promises to make the oceans recede and unicorns to provide carbon free (except for the methane from their farts) transportation.

I think if anyone's "dropping the ball" it is us. We voted him in and it seems that a lot of us feel like our job is finished. Not so...I say. He needs our support just as much now as he did during the 2016 race. We're letting him down by remaining silent amid the roar of protesters and continuous hacking by the mainstream media. At least half the population likes and supports Trump...but IMO we're doing a very poor job of reminding "the other half" of that fact.
