BFA forums a hot mess.

Post by Brian D. »

Even though the place is VERY low-traffic, I still visit their forums. But they have some kind of snafu that won't allow users to stay logged in. (Thought the malfunction might be at my end, but nope.) I did manage post about it on a active thread, but since their admins/coords rarely visit, it didn't really help.

I really wonder why the BFA brass keep the forum open.

BFA doesn't want to concede victory to OFCC concerning membership and active people in the organization.

I'm shooting out at Aaron's range Saturday.
I'll ask him

They are working on a new board setup, according to Aaron. Last time I looked, nobody "in charge" responded to posts/questions on their Facebook page, either.

Do they have a booth at the Ohio State Fair? I could ask tomorrow when I go.

I doubt that anyone has noticed but I have one Chrome window with several tabs active 24/7.
Those tabs have logged in to several gun related sites at all times.
That includes these forums, the BFA forums, and others.

I've never been bumped off any of them that I know of.

I check in to BFA daily, to read the news they post. Never bumped off.

On the other hand, many of us are having problems staying logged into the BFA forums (I personally know 3). Could be browser - I use Firefox because I don't like Google Chrome - or something completely unrelated.

I am amused that they said they weren't going to try to fix the issue because they were working on the big forum update. Pretty shortsighted - the place is a ghost town, but rather than trying to keep those remaining participants able to continue to use the forum, they want to devote all their effort toward building a better ghost town. Sometime emptying your browsers cache will resolve session issues like that.

Was having a similar issue with my banks website. Imagine trying to pay a bill online and having your session expire before you can enter a single amount and hit submit. Clearing the browser's cache immediately resolved the issue. Glad that bill wasn't due that day.. :)

That trick works for a couple minutes at a time in good days, Bruenor.

Compared to my phone, or various desktops I use here and there, you're running a 21st century HAL 2000 at your home, Alan. I can't just keep tabs open like that.

As you probably figured out by now, I was talking about the BFA forums, not their main site.

Logged in to see what was happening. Showed that I had not been there in 11 months. Clicked on "New posts." Each time I looked at another page of new posts, I had to re-login. Seems like an undesirable feature to me. ;)

AS I type this I have 11 Chrome windows active with a total of 62 tabs.
Nine Windows Explorer windows (minimized), Thunderbird minimized, 4 32bit windows games paused minimized, 3 java programs minimized but running.
Two spreadsheets open but minimized
and finally Windows Calculator minimized.
Oh, also 5 videos paused, minimized. 4 mp4s and one DVD.

Currently out of 32gb of RAM 14.12 gb is in use.
C: and D: drives are both 500gb SSDs.
I have four 1tb HDDs set up as two 1tb raids.

My processor is an AMD eight core FX-8350 that sometime spikes up to 4.0 GHZ.
My ISP is Xfinity and I'm currently getting 176 mbps download speed.

The computer case is huge and weighs in at about 75lbs. I've got room for two more hot swappable 5" HDDs and 3 more fixed HDDs.

OH, and in my living room is my Apple ][ and a Commodore 64 Monitor. 48k of memory and a 300 baud modem. The Apple was my first computer. Bought it new in '77. And cost almost as much as my current computer.

EDIT: One more thing. I was born about eight months before Bell Laboratories built and tested the first junction transistor amplifier.
All this solid state technology has been developed and placed on the consumer market in my lifetime.
