Long gun Ohio to michigan
My brother in law in Michigan would like to buy my Remington 700. What’s the process for selling a long gun over state lines?

Get it to a Michigan FFL and have your BIL complete the transaction through them.corrsk wrote:My brother in law in Michigan would like to buy my Remington 700. What’s the process for selling a long gun over state lines?

Federal law allows long gun sales between two congruent(?) states but only if they have an agreement between them. Does Ohio have this agreement with anybody?

Ohio now allows any non-state residents to purchase a long gun in Ohio, but only through at a FFL, although many dealers will not sell to residents of certain states...like CA, NY,MA, DE, HI, & IL just because of their home state's laws.
Face to face transactions between non-licensed individuals of different states is still forbidden by Federal law.

Kudos for even asking, corrsk.
A lesser person many not even considered that they could run afoul by selling their personal property to another law abiding individual, regardless of some silly state line.

Stinks doesn't it ?bignflnut wrote: Honest and for true?
I believe it was the CGA '68 that did it in for long guns, handguns had some restrictions prior to that, IIRC.
If you live in Ohio, and travel across state lines, you may not sell a firearm to anyone other than a FFL holder.
Go to another state, you can purchase a long gun, but only from an FFL (If that state allows it). Any handgun purchases must be sent to an FFL in your home state, then 4473'd there.
I'm not up to par on MI's laws, but I believe they have some "kinks" when it comes handguns, so you need to study.
The interstate transportation is where the Fed's get their authority to regulate sales thru FFL's, and why it is so restricted. Makes a real mess of things when you are wanting to transfer between family & friends from other states.
