What other methods for population control could there be, that might not cost so much, and possibly be a form of income to the state. Archery in parks maybe ?
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- More than halfway through what was supposed to be a $3.3 million effort to control the Island's deer population using vasectomies, the program has run more than $300,000 over budget and officials can't provide an updated deer count from nearly a year ago.
Year two of the program wrapped up earlier this month, as reports of deer being stranded in Staten Islander's backyards for days and deer vehicle collisions have been on the rise.
Since the vasectomy program launched in September 2016, the city has performed vasectomies on 1,154 of Staten Island's male deer population to date, according to the city's Parks Department.
