First time flying with a firearm. Must say, it went a LOT smoother than I anticipated. Used a KelTec small box with 2 keylocks. I didn't realize I had to go to the "Special" baggage claim area with Delta, but the guy at the regular check in was extremely nice and helpful pointing me in the right direction. The Special handler had me sign and date the card, throw it in the bag. Said he'd let me know if anyone needed me for anything else, to hang out there for a moment. He came back a couple minutes later and just gave me a thumbs up.
Arriving a MCO, I wasn't sure exactly where I'd be picking up. As I walked around the baggage claim area, there was an announcement with my name to come to Delta customer service baggage claim. Walked over, gentleman there asked to see an ID, showed him, he pointed, I grabbed.
All in all, very nice experience and kudos to all involved.
I'll update about the return trip on Friday. That has a stopover in Atlanta on the way back,

Is Delta still putting the large Zip ties around the luggage when it contains a firearm ?
Is Delta still putting the special CAGPT tag on it ?

I did not get any zipties. I did however get the CAGPT tag.

That sticker means that there's something valuable worth stealing in your luggage.
CAGPT "Check and Give protection to"

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2017/0 ... ng-safety/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
At least the process was relatively hassle free and you no longer need to come up with a tool to remove the zip ties after reaching your destination on a flight with Delta.
