Re: Ohio Issue 2
It looks like nonsense to me. The VA doesn't disclose what they pay, so there's no way to comply with this. This is from a quick googling:
It's another out-of-state initiative. If this were such a great idea, it could've been accomplished by a grass-roots effort funded by Ohioans. The main sponsor of the initiative is the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a California group that bills itself as the largest provider of HIV/AIDS medical care in the U.S. It funded the collection of signatures to get the measure on the ballot.
The foundation pushed a similar, but not identical, measure in California last year. Proposition 61 failed after the pharmaceutical industry spent more than $100 million to defeat it. That measure would have exempted Medicaid managed care plans from its drug price regulations, whereas the Ohio initiative would not.

Re: Ohio Issue 2
I just received a "voter's guide" to Issue 2 in the mail. It was sent by "noonissue2.org". Interesting reading. There are sure a buttload of Ohio orginizations against it.

Re: Ohio Issue 2
The pharmaceutical industry said straight out if this passes they will raise prices to compensate. Opposition says they will be heavily fined by the govt if they do. Not sure how Govt is supposed to dictate pricing to private industry. Govt can negotiate pricing yes, dictate no (unless the industry becomes nationalized, at which point we would be like Venezuela). I have no reason to believe the pharmaceutical industry won't raise prices to maintain their profit margins if this passes. Does anyone else think they are lying ?

The promoters of Issue 2 also wrote into it an unprecedented provision giving themselves the right to intervene at taxpayer expense in any legal challenges that may be filed against it if it becomes law. This provision would give the sponsors a blank check to defend any part of the law, and require that their legal fees be reimbursed by taxpayers whether they win or lose.

I'm in a quandary. The Cleveland plain Dealer is opposed to it, but crazy Bernie is for it.

Well, I just saw a TV ad by Dennis Kucinich supporting it.
That kinda support tells me a lot about what will happen if it is passed.

Re: Ohio Issue 2
I finally sat down and read the arguments for and against each of the two issues up for voting this coming Tuesday.
https://www.sos.state.oh.us/elections/v ... ideissues/
I'm voting against both of them.

I don't understand it either. Way to much conjecture and not enough hard facts. I don't believe half of it and don't care about the rest. Two things I believe for sure is that the sponsors of this are not pushing this for the benefit of the people of Ohio. They have something to gain. I don't know what but it must be something very valuable. Probably at the expense of the good citizens of Ohio. I'm agin' it.

Re: Ohio Issue 2
I was going to vote for it, due to the extreme push against it ....
Then I figured out the lawsuit thing.
If the thing loses, IMHO, it's "status quo", and they'll try something else.
If it passes (ignore the "features" - the stuff that's supposed to keep prices down), and one of the proponents is sued for about anything related to the bill (I wonder if that wouldn't include other issues), WE pay their legal bills. Huh?
Ohio's goofy legal system allows interested individuals to get stuff on the ballot. Other than total silliness issues (remember King Canute?), I don't think there's anything to stop you.
Sometimes we have to read the small print....
It might be useful for us without the lawsuit language, but NOT with it....
Just IMHO.
Regards,

Re: Ohio Issue 2
No pro-issue ads or info put out from supporters speaks volumes.
Perhaps they are already planning a second, third, fourth attempt. Like the casino thingie or worse, YOUR local school tax raises commonly referred to as levies. Peck, peck, peck, badger, badger, badger, harass ....we won and the ppl have spoken! We threw enuff darts and finally hit! (and with that the ppl must have NOT spoken the other 4-5-6 votes)
Perhaps they are planning an off-election season vote i.e. May ballot, and counting on low voter turn out
There needs to be a '3 strikes you're out ' law, whereas the school or whoever can only reinitiate the ballot issue 3X in so many years, or a mandatory wait for XXX years if failed XXX times.
Alas the necessity of forward think'n by the OGA.

There have been several down at this end of the state. More anti- than pro-, but some of the pro-bill ads are damned slick, and tug at heartstrings. If an average citizen had seen them first, or only...WhyNot wrote:No pro-issue ads or info put out from supporters speaks volumes.
