Ohio AG sues Opiate Drug Manufacturing Companies

Post by Bruenor »

Kind of like suing firearms manufacturers for the actions of criminals.

The Ohio attorney general sued five drugmakers on Wednesday, accusing the companies of perpetrating the state's addictions epidemic by intentionally misleading patients about the dangers of painkillers and promoting benefits of the drugs not backed by science.

Attorney General Mike DeWine said the companies created a deadly mess in Ohio that they now need to pay to clean up.

"This lawsuit is about justice, it's about fairness, it's about what is right," DeWine said in announcing the complaint filed in Ross County, a southern Ohio community slammed by fatal drug overdoses from painkillers and heroin.
DeWine wants an injunction stopping the companies from their alleged misconduct and damages for money the state spent on opiates sold and marketed in Ohio. The attorney general also wants customers repaid for unnecessary opiate prescriptions for chronic pain.

"These drug companies knew that what they were doing was wrong and they did it anyway," DeWine said.

Some of you already know I've always felt that DeFine was a grandstander, a wimp, and ultimately clueless about how to be in charge of anything.

This stupid scheme illustrates my opinion of him pretty good, I think.

reading the rest of the article I see several other states have taken this same route and won large settlements.

Win or lose, I see it having Zero impact on the problem they claim to be trying to resolve.

Pity the drug companies that are being sued don't have a big enough pair to say, "Fine, if we are the problem then we will not sell ANY of our products to the State of Ohio or to anyone in the State of Ohio."

What makes DeWine look like an idiot...or even more of an idiot...is that the opium poppy has been used for at least 5000 years and appears in early Sumerian and Sanskrit texts. The side effects, addiction and withdrawal have been well known all along. He's going to have a tough time making the argument that drug companies intentionally misled the public. Any moron knows the risks associated with misusing the stuff.

Same thing can be said of smoking. Yet, look at the stupidity we have in place now... gov telling businesses what they may or may not allow on their property and in their premises, millions stolen from tobacco companies to be wasted on boondoggle after boondoggle, etc.

I wonder how many people in the general populace haven't got the first idea just how true this is? Those are the ones DeWimpy is counting on to vote for him in the election.

He "butches up" like this in some manner during each run for office. As an OAG candidate he just loved assuming a stern pose and standing alongside some big city SWAT outfit. Can you imagine him taking point and being first to hit the door? "Ice Cream Social Boy leads narco raid, we'll have film at 11!"

Boy what's going on with Ohio lately.. so Dewine throws down on the epidemic, Taylor can't be left out since she's running for gov as well I guess..

Ohio's lieutenant governor revealed Thursday that her two sons have struggled with opioid addiction, adding her family to the thousands known to be affected by the nation's prescription painkiller and heroin epidemic.

"Like many Ohioans, my family is struggling with addiction, and the opiate crisis has, you know, it's come in my front door," Taylor said in making the revelation to the Dayton Daily News.

She said Ohio's second family has been at times in crisis over the past five years, describing failed drug rehab programs, two overdoses at the family's home and urgent calls for ambulances.

Taylor, a Republican who is planning to run for governor, said her sons - Joe, 26, and Michael, 23 - are now doing well, though one son remains in drug treatment.

There are people in the general population who have no clue where food comes from or what it takes to produce it. Let alone pharmacutecals. So yes, he'll get some votes for doing this no matter how it shakes out.

Just grandstanding by another politician with no REAL intent as to curing the problem.

If he really wanted to do something about the plague of heroin addiction and overdoses he'd be screaming to every news outlet to close the dang border!

The streets are awash with cheap heroin, fentanyl and carfentanyl that comes across the mexican border on the backs of illegals. You hardly ever hear it mentioned by politicians because they don't want the border closed.

Kinda looks like a government subsidized problem. OD... Free narcan... No recourse for the addict. Let's get high again.

Oh yeah, how long has the war on drugs been going on?
