Military ID extended..

Post by carmen fovozzo »

WEnt to Summit County to get my Military ID today...Took about 10 minutes, $1.00 and a picture taking....they even paid for me to park in the county garage....

The renewal was for every four years...that has been changed to ten years....

I have one of these from Mercer County.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A number of Ohio counties are saying thanks to those who served in the nation's military services by enrolling them into a new veterans I.D. program.

Discharge records are typically used to prove eligibility for certain military benefits, but rather than having vets carry around paperwork from one place to another, some counties are providing veterans with an I.D. card. Stark County was the first to offer the program in 2012, and spokesperson Mike McKinney of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services says there are now more than a dozen counties issuing cards.

Doesn't look like Miami County does this yet.

I was not aware that any Ohio counties did this.

As information, many veterans can already get a "Veterans ID Card" directly from the Veterans Administration. If a veteran has a service-connected disability or is otherwise entitled to healthcare or a VA-pension from the VA (among other things), he/she can receive the VA ID card now. I do not know where they're at with it, but the planning is already underway to extend this to all veterans, regardless of VA healthcare eligibility.

The card looks like this:
