RESOLVED

I've spent the better part of this afternoon and evening beating my head in trying to figure this out. So far as I can tell this is an issue limited to the Google Chrome browser starting in version 56 released in late January, 2017. Google decided that if there are any password or credit card fields on a webpage and the *entre* webpage is not fully encrypted it will automatically define that page as "not secure" - and while I can't find any documentation to support this, it appears that when we were legitimately moving a user from a http// (not encrypted) web-page to a https:// encrypted webpage Chrome, and ONLY Chrome is refusing to acknowledge that move. I can reproduce this 100% now that I understand it. It behaves perfectly in Firefox, Safari, and Safari on the iPad -- but Chrome 56 and 57 were ignoring our redirection to https:// and basically broke our website's functionality because of Google's desire to impose a new standard that all websites adopt SSL encryption from head to toe. I used to defend Google. Now they can take a long walk off a short pier.

After finally realizing this was the case I converted our main website to require SSL on all pages, so if you try to type in http://ohioccw.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you're going to end up redirected to https://ohioccw.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. So far I have not seen any fall out from this in my limited testing, and Google Chrome is suddenly happy, willing and able to remain encrypted when we redirect you to the credit card form.

So, to renew your membership with OFCC you have three choices:

1. If we email you a link asking you to renew that link will take you right to the proper https:// URL and you don't even have to login (we presume you have access to your own email)
2. If you login to OhioCCW.org using the blue "Log in" button in the top right it should redirect you to the Dashboard, where a second "Renew Now" link will take you to the renewal system
3. If you login to OhioCCW.org and it doesn't properly redirect you for some reason a hidden menu option (for those who login) under "Join / Renew" takes you to the Dashboard encrypted

If your mailing address has changed:

After logging in, go to the Join / Renew menu at the top and choose "Edit your membership profile"

If you don't know how to login to OhioCCW.org properly:
  • 1. Remember, OhioCCW.org has no idea what your forum personality is at all
    2. If you used a different email on OhioCCW.org than for the forums, or it has changed, the membership system only knows your old email. Try that one.
    3. If you know the email but don't know what password was used on OhioCCW.org use the "Forgot your password?" link after clicking the blue "Log In" button
Finally - if you just can't get into the membership system use the Contact Us Page: https://ohioccw.org/index.php?option=co ... Itemid=386, Choose Membership, and give us all of your personal details other than a credit card. We can go into the system, reset the password, and modify it to use your legitimate email address, etc.

Contrary to a popular belief when I brag about OFCC accomplishments I'm not looking for your thank you or personal recognition. I'd much prefer you send me an email telling me when you are going to get involved in doing what I've been doing since 1999. We are only as effective as we make ourselves. We need the next generation of OFCC to step to the plate.

Is that you?

I think you should redo this page that you get when clicking on "Renew OFCC Membership"

http://ohioccw.org/wiki/Renew_Your_OFCC_Membership" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I ended up there and found it worthless, especially since clicking on "Log In" from that page takes you to a "Log In" page that does not recognize a valid login.

I like paying in person at the Party in the Park. I also like putting a check or money order in an envelope and mailing it in.
