Area women flock to Arcadia area to learn to shoot from 80 instructors at NRA event

More than 200 women from across the state gathered Saturday for the sixth annual Women's Fun Shoot at the Oklahoma City Gun Club, north of Arcadia. This event has been the nation's largest instructional shooting clinic for women since its inception.

Many Edmond residents attended the event, most of whom were novice shooters. Many had never handled a firearm before. As the day went on, though, trepidation gave way to exhilaration, and cheers went up throughout the crowd when successful shots were made.

About 80 instructors guided participants through four stations across the course, teaching basic firearm safety and individualized technique for each type of firearm. Organizations providing instructors included the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, Midwest City Police Department, Luther Police Department, McClain County Sheriff's Department, and the Oklahoma City Fire Department, as well as NRA-certified instructors from the gun club itself.
