Slunglo: Yep, you're correct. Somehow "tripod" came up as part of his website address on my PC. Can't figure out why.

I have a lot of respect for John Lott. He's a competent economist and I've read some of his work on firearms.

I am surprised how poorly written the lead story is on his website.

Tom, I think that little piece was a blog, which tend to be informal. There is a link on the page to his editorial pieces.
