The Shutdown

Post by AlanM »

Interesting. Let's see if something good comes out of this.
Trump's shutdown trap?
Has President Trump suckered Democrats and the Deep State into a trap that will enable a radical downsizing of the federal bureaucracy? In only five more days of the already "longest government shutdown in history" (25 days and counting, as of today), a heretofore obscure threshold will be reached, enabling permanent layoffs of bureaucrats furloughed 30 days or more.

A good read, can it happen? Lets hope.
Due to the lack of funding, many federal agencies are now operating more effectively from the top down on a fraction of their workforce, with only select essential personnel serving national security tasks. ...

President Trump can end this abuse. Senior officials can reprioritize during an extended shutdown, focus on valuable results and weed out the saboteurs. We do not want most employees to return, because we are working better without them.

Really? According to the MSM the checks to Urban housing won't be issued for rent free housing and food stamp programs will be suspended if the shutdown drags on, (even though they don't fall under Homeland security) TSA agents are calling in sick, causing some airlines to close some terminals, the EPA is not doing spot inspections, the FDA isn't doing food safety checks, and we're all going to potentially die from this.

btw, I've not heard anything in the MSM about this, are the asylum applications at the border still being processed? Can't the INS simply say due to the government shutdown we can't process applications? The government isn't processing applications for other things, including ATF approving new beer formulas.

A couple of my favorites so far are:

1. the rapper posting the video stating "I'm scared" because of the shut down, and the Dems messaging each other debating whether they should retweet her video or not. I'm still trying to figure out what there is to be scared of, and Obamas shutdown was OK because it was for healthcare and that's completely different.

2. Cortez traipsing around Washington to try and find McConnell and force him to hold a vote that will end the shutdown.. LINK She's such a loon.

For grins, did anyone see the Pelosi trip being cancelled?
Fallout is even funnier.

Back to serious ideas being later called "tinfoil"...
As the longest government shutdown in American history lurches toward its fifth week, a grim but growing consensus has begun to emerge on Capitol Hill: There may be no way out of this mess until something disastrous happens.

This is, of course, not a sentiment lawmakers are eager to share on the record. But in interviews this week with congressional staffers on both sides of the aisle (whom I granted anonymity in exchange for candor), I heard the same morbid idea expressed again and again.

SNIP

In these interviews, I heard an array of macabre hypotheticals—from airplane crashes to food-safety scares, TSA strikes to terrorist incidents. But the one theme that ran through every conversation was a sense that the current political dynamics won’t change until voters get a lot angrier.

SNIP

On a similar—if darker—note, I spoke to one congressional staffer who wondered aloud whether it might take a stressed-out air-traffic controller causing a plane crash to bring an end to the shutdown. And several aides worried that some kind of terrorist incident would end up serving as the catalyst to get the government up and running again.
False flag planning right out in the open...but THAT couldn't happen in #Merica

I see no problem with what he did. If, as she alleges, the budget isn't there to adequately secure a building that is completely under their control then I can't imagine how much more it would cost to provide security while visiting multiple countries that are not under their control in the least. I'm guessing that it definitely isn't in the budget to provide that level of security though.

Apparently from the USDA. I found this statement as part of a.pdf file available at the Ohio JDFS website (https://jfs.ohio.gov/ocomm/index.stm )

"...The U.S. Department of Agriculture instructed states to make February SNAP benefits available to recipients by Jan. 20, since no benefits will be issued in February. In Ohio, February SNAP benefits were issued on Jan. 16..."

Yes but if they (USDA) are shut down then where is the money coming from and why are they allowed to just disburse the money when they want to?

Hey, if the Hill can't be protected...
A House Democratic Caucus meeting was roiled Thursday morning after one representative floated the possibility that the ongoing partial federal government shutdown might affect federal authorities' ability to secure the upcoming Super Bowl.

“That definitely got everyone’s attention,” one House Democrat who asked not to be identified told Fox News after the meeting.
So, if there's some airline incident on the weekend of the Super Bowl...

Does the 1977 flick "Black Sunday" happen to be a favorite of yours? Super Bowl + deranged pilot + sexy Palestinian co-conspirator + plastic explosives charge + thousands of steel flechettes = boffo box office.

Even my 16 year old self found that movie pretty far fetched.
