I know the correct terminology, but in all my years of scanner listening as well as casual conversations with officers - both Highway Patrol and others, they always call it OSP.

Repeated enough times a lie becomes fact!

If one is referred to as the "Ohio State Police" enough times, one may actually start to believe it. I opt not to drop the "H"

Agree 100% Should rename them to Ohio State Traffic Enforcement as they don't do much "real" Police work anyway.

They do all the criminal investigations/interrogations for most state agencies. They also have an investigator assigned in each of Ohio's finer penal facilities. To me, that's also police work.

Don't just call them. Write a really nice thank-you letter so they will put it in her personnel folder.

Some years ago a troop eased in behind me when I was adding gas to my tank from a two gallon can.
It probably struck him as unusual to see someone in nursing whites performing a roadside self assist.
Told him I appreciated his kindness, we discussed the truck and its good points and drawbacks, and his K9 in the back seat said hello as well.
I wrote the Post a thank-you and got a very nice note back from the LT, he said my letter would go in the troop's employee jacket.
By all means, write them that thank-you.
I've worn the badge myself and know how few and far between thanks can be.

No, that is Investigative work. Ask one how many Domestic's they've been too? They chase taillights for a living. As much as they hate to admit it, they have limited police powers granted to them.

I've seen Troopers escort people out of facilities in cuffs. I assume police work, too.

They also protect the statehouse and investigate in some capacity plane crashes.
