Oh, wait.
That's why I put the window down and had my hands on the steering wheel. They were at about 11 & 1 O'clock positions.

If they are outside the window, they are outside of the vehicle :?
I was being sarcastic. Neither the AG's site nor the Ohio Revised Code says anything about putting your hands out the window. Placing your hands where you did is pretty much a textbook example of "in plain sight".

Noticed you were from Chillicothe. I am in the area alot. What Hwy were you pulled over on? This is the type of crap that makes me hesitant to carry. The Ohio Highway Patrol has been pretty adamant about harassing CHL holders as much as possible.

So what if they started doing the same sorts of things to gun OWNERS? Would you take your guns to a "buyback" and trade them for basketball tickets, or whatever?

This makes it all the more important to carry whenever you can.

In 56 years, I've NEVER seen a bully stop being a bully because he got what he wanted BY being a bully.

I figured you were.

I was just bringing up the point that it says to remain in your vehicle and if I put my hands out the window, that may be construed as trying to exit my vehicle.

I didn't say that I was not going to carry. I simply said this is what makes me hesitant to carry. What I feel and what I do are not always the same thing. But yes I get your point.

However, what will happen to the officer for handling this situation completely illegally...................nothing.

It was on Route 138 coming out of Clarksburg towards Circleville.

I know this sounds terrible but I have been pulled over many times. I ride a motorcycle with high handlebars so the OSHP just love to pull me over.
But I have never been treated in this manner as this morning. I always notify and leave my hands on the handlebars. They ask where my firearm is and I tell them and they would just tell me not to make any quick moves towards the gun. And that's the end of the CHL issue.

This is why I'm wodering if the stop was conducted with the cruiser's dash camera not being in play, on purpose.

With video--or even good audio--there would likely be a much different ending to the story.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

It depends upon what was recorded, by whom, and whether it agrees with their written statements.

I may not be able to get you fired.

I CAN make you prosecutorial poison if I can prove you're an habitual liar.

Got it. I was just curious. That is good to hear then. Sounds like a witch hunt for sure though. Good for you for maintaining your cool. That would have been hard to do.

I am not sure it would be on the dash cam.
It was on a rural road. After the initial stop, she told me to go a little further down the road and pull off at the drive. Her car was not directly behind mine during the stop.
So the first time she talked to you (when she told you to move a bit further down the road) is that when you notified or was it a bit later? Your original story left that part out by the way.

The initial stop.
When I drove up to the drive is when I was chastised for improperly informing.

If an officer is trained incorrectly, are they protected by 'qualified immunity'?

If an officer misunderstands a law and incorrectly enforces that law, are they protected by 'qualified immunity'?

If they ARE protected by qualified immunity, where is their incentive to know the law?

The cynicism may be well deserved.

100% agree that a public records request should be made for any dashcam or personal video & audio recordings, radio traffic and telephone calls related to the OP's stop.

It's more cynical that. Folks here think too much about "da cop on da street" because that's all they see. They fail to see the forest for the trees. The issue is much more political than it is legal.

Ask yourself this: What Ohio entity is usually the chief opponent every time we try to liberalize laws related to the transportation and carry of firearms?

I seem to recall it being the Ohio Highway Patrol.

But of course the FOP would come in a strong second... somewhat ironic for an organization which thinks that wife beaters should have guns... but ONLY if they have badges too.
