Re: Cutting Tool at Nationwide Arena
ColdSteel.com has a series of fiberglass-reinforced plastic knives.
They aren't really cuttey-cuttey as much as they are stabbey-stabbey (although they WOULD do some slicing damage to those chicken fingers!)

The section you reference is as follows: "(4) There is hereby created the Ohio casino control commission which shall license and regulate casino operators, management companies retained by such casino operators, key employees of such casino operators and such management companies, gaming-related vendors, and all gaming authorized by section 6(C), to ensure the integrity of casino gaming."Werz wrote:Actually, we, the people, ceded that authority to the Ohio Casino Control Commission. The Governor just appoints them, with the consent of the Ohio Senate. Ohio Const. Art. XV, § 6(C)(4)...BB62 wrote:And of course our esteemed legislators and governor have allowed rules to be put in place which demand that in order to be issued a gaming license, casinos must ban carry.ROME wrote:...it is just a pain that the laws/rules are so different everywhere.
Under your interpretation, the commission apparently has unfettered authority to regulate every aspect of a casino's operations "to ensure the integrity of casino gaming". Just how demanding a carry ban does so is beyond me.
So, as I said, the legislators and the governor have ALLOWED the ban to take place by not curtailing the commission.
On another subject, the same sort of ban is required of deputy registrars, private operators of BMV-related businesses.
I'll think about it.Werz wrote:...Of course, you can always hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit for a declaratory judgment under R.C. 9.68.
Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)

Re: Cutting Tool at Nationwide Arena
I was in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium watching OSU get their butt handed to them this weekend. I get up to the head of the line and see a security guard wanding everyone. The sign said hold all your metal items in your hands. I had my Spyderco folder on me. I put it in my hand along with my money clip and car keys. Other hand has my flashlight and cell phone. They run the wand over my pockets and pass me in. They never looked at my hands. So much for security.

More security theatre. That's why I try to avoid large crowds. Especially where they insist on disarming me. Do you suppose someone could walk in with a pressure cooker held up over his head? Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Re: Cutting Tool at Nationwide Arena
Some of the responses have closely echoed my major gripes with this situation.
There was the question of how long the lines are, etc. There is generally a rush of people entering the arena leading up to game time. I have experienced a variety of security protocols at Nationwide Arena -- wanding, checking purses only, "lift your jacket" (looking at front/side of waistband while ignoring the back), and nothing at all. It seems like they use whatever security level they can staff for a particular event. This inconsistency means two things; you can't predict or learn what is and is not OK (recall that I was told by security personnel that I could take my knife in with me!) and it also means that their "security" likely wouldn't be effective against someone with a serious agenda.
I just don't understand the inconsistencies. I don't agree with any policy which disarms law-abiding people, particularly in large crowded public places where the "house security" is unable to properly respond to a real threat. But, if that's your policy, at least execute it consistently and without exception. My experience was just an awkward and unpleasant one all around.

No practical level of security will prevent someone who is serious. They'll just pop the security guys, run in and take care of business.
Especially if they are the security guys that are normally there. Not even a pistol in sight let alone anything heavier.

Re: Cutting Tool at Nationwide Arena
A few years back my children and I were at Quicken Loans Arena as part of a Scout activity. We had our ice skates (with blade guards) since we were invited to play on the ice before the game. Security turned me away because of a little bitty swiss army knife. Ended up caching the knife outside, then went back. They let me in, sans knife, but with my razor-sharp, twelve inch skates. Oh, and my children were all unarmed (except for their razor-sharp skates).
Still scratching my head on that one.

One should have a good rigger type/wilderness gun belt and also don't forget your large padlock to secure things with...it also makes an excellent defensive mace..

Those are great knives. I bough my wife a Kershaw Leek. She accidentally left it in her purse the last time she flew so the nice TSA man threw it in the trash for her.

I keep a pre addressed padded envelope in my carry on with plenty of forever postage on it to get any items home should the former burger flippers frown on my flying the friendly skies with them.hAkron wrote:Those are great knives.
