Also, maybe three years ago at Westland, one of the C&E staffers mentioned that the venue had experienced several problems with attempts to spirit guns and such off tables and out the door. Hence the "This exit only with firearms" thing.

No sarcasm intended. I've never been any good at humor. Sorry if I offended you.

You're correct in that the LEO could be doing as instructed. She may have been just curious and wanted to make conversation. Or it could have been a trap.

If it had been a trap it would've been interesting to hear the trooper or the prosecutor try to justify charging someone with illegal carry of an unloaded gun just bought at a gun show, while still at the show, to a judge.

Okay it's all good then High Power. C&E does shows in several states, I'm sure that in some areas there is comparatively little problem with firearms theft. But one show at Westland even had thieves trying to break in on Saturday night, and one of them got shot for their trouble, if I recall correctly. Pretty brazen stuff, but that part of town is, uh, well...Now that they've moved to the Ohio Expo Center, well heck it's probably just as bad.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

I'd have directed my sarcasm at said OSHP Officer. I generally leave gun shows empty handed...easy enough to see I'm not toting a gun or a gun sized package...so I'd have answered her with a question of my own..."Do I look like I'm carrying a gun?" :?

My 2nd to last gun show attendance was around 2004 when I was newly licensed to carry. I arrived carrying concealed. The guy at the door asked, and said it was ok, but said "We have to do this." He asked for me to remove the ammo, then took the gun and ziplocked it up somehow so it could not be reloaded. I did not like that treatment so I stopped attending gun shows for awhile. I did get talked into attending one more at a different place. I left the gun in the car for that one. On the way out there was a sexy lady standing on the hood of a car with an AR15 for sale. She was dressed like a pin-up girl on an auto mechanics calendar. My buddy who was a former ATF contractor said that was an ATF or other police department sting. That was my last gun show. I don't really like them anyways. I get product overload. Most vendors are just legit store owners anyways. There were no real bargains.

My experience has run almost exactly parallel with yours.

I don't really see how they could "sting" someone. It is legal for law-abiding citizens to engage in private sales of firearms at gun shows...even in the parking lot. If for some reason an unqualified person would attempt to buy the weapon...IDK how the cops would know without detaining the person and checking up on them. If they arrested that person...then AFAIK the cops have just committed entrapment.

On the way out of the last gun show I attended, I happened to overhear a guy near the exit say he a S&W Highway Patrolman. I asked to look and ended up buying it. The price was fair and the gun is very nice. No sting, no paperwork, no problem. I wasn't really planning on buying it, but it was on my "secret" want list and I have learned not to pass up these things when they present themselves.

Good score. I hope I'm lucky enough to come across a nice 28-2 one of these years.
