...a vigilant citizen with a cellphone captured video of the ridiculously excessive force by police on 18-year-old kid who ran from them. In spite of teen being handcuffed, face-down on the ground, with another officer on top of him, a Franklin Township police officer is seen punting his face like a football. This week, in a rare move, the officer was actually found guilty for his crimes.
Former Franklin Township Police Officer Robert Wells, 49, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law, according to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien.
“While we support police officers, whenever an office uses excessive unreasonable force such as this there is just no justification for that,” said O’Brien. “Everyone has the right to be free from the use of excessive force by law-enforcement officers.”
color of law violation? How often does this happen? Why would FOP/defense plead to/prefer this charge? Is sentencing going to be a week of home arrest?
As NBC4i reports, Wells will be sentenced after a pre-sentence investigation( *???*). Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law is a federal crime that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison when it results in bodily injury.

"Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Adams to Mass Militia 10-11-1798
Now this "kid" went on a 90mph run from police through residential neighborhoods. Once he is in handcuffs and defenseless...this is stupid on the officer's part. If he is that stupid and out of control he deserves it. Granted, this kid deserved a beating, but the time to do that is BEFORE he is cuffed.
God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can
and the Wisdom to know the difference.
The quote says this is a Federal crime, but the County Prosecutor is handling the case, so evidently he was not charged Federally, only under O.R.C.
And he was not "found guilty", as another quote says - he pleaded out, probably to a reduced charge. I'd like to see what the original charge was. That may well have been the best he could hope for.
And I agree with the posts saying the officer deserved the hit. If a suspect's got "payback" coming, you do it "while using that force necessary to effect the arrest". Once he's cuffed up, show's over, boys. Wait for another day.
A former Franklin Township police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Columbus to one felony count after he was recorded kicking a suspect following a high-speed chase in May.
Robert Wells, 49, of Pataskala, admitted to the single charge of deprivation of rights as part of a plea agreement. A second charge of obstruction of justice was dropped.
The count carries up to 10 years in prison, though prosecutors agreed to cap that at no more than 24 months, plus a fine and restitution to the victim in the case.
With it being a felony, no more firearms, etc. I wonder how much he is going to have to pay the kid.
You would think that with the majority of phones having high resolution cameras that people would learn that the eyes of the world are always on them.

Look at the Chicago cop who tried to stomp the barmaid to death. He actually believed that people could watch the video and buy his story that she'd thrown him around "like a rag doll" making it "self-defense".
Life comes at you fast. Be prepared to shoot it in the head when it does.
