North Olmsted: A Walmart employee called police about 11:50 a.m. June 10 to report that they had a suspected male shoplifter in custody.
The store's loss prevention officer said he witnessed the suspect take a $49 prepaid cell phone out of its box and conceal it in his front hoodie pocket. Afterward, the suspect selected a toilet seat, paid for it at a cash register along with a prepaid phone card, and then attempted to leave the store without paying for the phone.
Police found the suspect also had a 40-caliber handgun with hollow-point rounds loaded in it and two knives. The man has a conceal and carry permit from Lake County, but initially failed to tell officers about it.
Police charged him with felony robbery and are considering additional charges.
