Google banning Firearms related AdWords

Post by Bruenor »

The Google search monopoly is adding to the list of words that can not be used in ads.. Another push in the effort to make gun ownership a deviant activity.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government ... nd-sights/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the email, which provides a “non-exhaustive list of examples of products for which ads will no longer be allowed.” Those include:

Stocks
Conversion kits
Scopes and sights
Tripods and bipods
Gun-grips
Gun-making instructions, software or equipment for 3D printing of guns or gun-parts
Second Amendment Foundation executive director Alan Gottlieb spoke to Breitbart New about this backdoor gun control, saying, “The Google war on guns is a direct attack on gun ownership. Maybe it is time to regulate the internet giants like Google, Facebook, and YouTube and not gun ownership.”

I wouldn't go there. That's not the purpose of Government. Google, et al, are allowed to ban whatever they want as a private business. That does not mean they will survive competition, however. It's time for a new competitor, anyway.
Good luck and stand fast, true Patriots.

I’d imagine the same was said about the monopolies of Standard Oil, the railroads etc in the late 1800s. In fact, where a
monopoly exists (and Google, Facebook and YouTube are monopolies in their marketshare, HQ geographic concetration and behavior), the government is the only counterweight.

Libertarian perfection is the enemy of the good here. Make your opponent live by their rules, so to speak.

Uhm no... Government intervention is the cause of monopoly. Without government intervention or by government inaction to enforce violations of law/rights a monopoly can flourish. In an actual free market where government actually does its job and protects peoples' rights a monopoly is not possible. Google, Facebook and YouTube are NOT monopolies. They do indeed have huge marketshares but no one is stopping anyone from entering the marketplace and competing. Standard Oil, Bell Telephone, and others became monopolies because government created barriers (on their own and at the behest of the companies) and kept competitors from entering the marketplace.

Net neutrality was all about Google/Facebook/Youtube using the government to create the monopoly. It’s here now.
