High level sources within the Broward County Sheriff’s office exclusively revealed to Big League Politics that disgraced Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is set to be removed from his position as Sheriff next week.

According to the source, Sheriff Israel is being removed from office for criminal issues, not malfeasance, following an investigation conducted by the office of Florida Governor Rick Scott. The source exclusively revealed to Big League Politics that Sheriff Israel is also being investigated by the IRS.

The high-level police source within the Sheriff’s Office disclosed that over the last several months, four candidates have been interviewed to refill the position of Broward County Sheriff. One of the candidates who were interviewed is Emery Giany, a Republican Florida law enforcement official who is closely associated with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Nikolas Cruz had to reload “several times”:
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri of Pinellas County, head of Florida's state-appointed commission investigating the Parkland shooting, said today that video from inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School showed the gunman, Nikolas Cruz, had to reload his AR-15 assault rifle several times.

— Patricia Mazzei (@PatriciaMazzei) August 9, 2018
According to Sheriff Gualtieri, the rifle only had a 6-shot magazine (17 were killed and 17 more wounded in the attack):
"There were several other times when he was in that school that his gun was empty," the sheriff said, noting that the rifle had a six-round magazine. A reload break allowed a teacher on the third floor of the freshman building to move students away to safety, he said.

Money quote:
"If he had somebody in there with a gun, they could have mitigated this," the sheriff said. "There were opportunities for staff to have intervened if they had been armed."

If there are no negative consequences toward those who failed to perform or attempt their duty that day, more of the same is encouraged.

According to a report by The Miami New Times, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel will be removed from his post by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who was sworn in Tuesday.

“Broward Sheriff Scott Israel has informed numerous high-ranking BSO members that he expects to be removed from his position and will fight to get his job back, according to three sources close to the agency,” the paper said.

SNIP

“Israel’s removal would be only the beginning, says Deputy Jeff Bell, the BSO union chief and member of DeSantis’ transition team,” according to the paper. “The move ‘would remove an incompetent sheriff,’ Bell says. ‘But if you’re looking to fix the agency and put it on the right track, it does nothing to do that.'”

So their sheriff is not an elected official, but rather appointed like Cuyahoga County ?

As I understand it, he's elected, but the Governor has the power to remove him for incompetence, misfeasance, malfeasance, etc.

Just three days after taking the oath of office, Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended the embattled two-term sheriff Friday and appointed former Coral Springs police Sgt. Gregory Tony to fill the role.

Israel fought back as he “filed a lawsuit challenging whether DeSantis had the authority to suspend him.” He claimed DeSantis never “specified any statutory or official duty that Israel neglected or performed incorrectly.” I guess he didn’t read or listen to DeSantis’s order or press conference.

Broward Circuit Judge David Haimes ruled against Israel in April. Israel’s attorneys filed an appeal, but the Supreme Court said DeSantis could suspend him.

Today’s @flcourts opinion leaves no doubt of my authority to suspend a government official for neglect of duty and incompetence. Scott Israel failed to protect the families and students of Broward County and I look forward to the @FLSenate resuming the process of formal removal.

— Ron DeSantis (@GovRonDeSantis) April 23, 2019

Of course Israel attorney’s bashed the ruling and promised he would not stop fighting.
