There was a time tot too long ago that grouping outside the area at a point of command to build a plan of attack before going in was SOP...
Unarmed people are vulnerable people, and criminal predators prey upon them.

I'm thinking the NRA and all other 2a groups need to help out anyone who runs against the sheriff when he's up for reelection. the agency has failed to stop this from happening in every way possible...

Of course.Brian D. wrote:I also read that this deputy now has a Palm Beach* County Sheriff's protective team around his home while the investigation continues. I suppose parents of at least one of the dead school children would be inclined to look up ex-deputy Peterson otherwise.
*Edited to Palm Beach County, I'd presumed ex-deputy Scot Peterson lived in Broward County, because that's where he was employed.

The deputy wasn't a school shooting preventer.
The deputy was a school shooting MONITOR.
He didn't PREVENT a school shooting.
He REPORTED a school shooting.
There was a school shooting.

New report states 3 more deputies waited outside, guns drawn behind their cars for a total of 4 armed deputies that did nothing.

Except the Sheriff has already said that the deputy was not following department SOP for a school shooting. If anybody should know what the SOP is for a school shooting in the sheriffs dept, it should be the Sheriff him or herself. (we need a sarcasm emoticon)High Power wrote: I don't want to criticize the Deputy and make any assumptions about why he didn't react. He could be a coward or he was following department SOP.
If you remember the scene in the movie "Patton," you will recall the soldier slapping incident. The real story about that soldier was that he wasn't a coward. He was ordered to report to the hospital tent for battle fatigue. He told his Battery Commander, "F*** you and your order. I want to stay here and kill as many Germans as possible."
His Battery Commander had two big soldiers drag him to the hospital tent. The movie didn't show what happened before the slapping incident and in everyone's minds, that soldier was branded a coward.
And like the soldier portrayed in the movie, we don't know the complete story in this deputy. If he was following department SOP by waiting for back-up then there is a bigger problem besides any alleged cowardice.
Based on this story, you may be correct about the depts. SOP. Allegedly 3 other deputies showed up and waited outside, until the city police showed up and questioned why they hadn't gone in the school

Regarding the bolded, I agree.High Power wrote:
The point that everyone is missing in the story of this deputy is that a cop cannot be counted on to always protect you even when they are SECONDS away. We shouldn't waste time criticizing the deputy but rather continue to point out that arming a potential victim has a better potential of preventing/stopping a mass killing.
Arming a potential victim is better than trying to fit a cop in a holster.
I heard on the radio someone in Florida said arming teachers was a bad idea, and the "solution" to school shootings is to mandate each school have at least two armed LEO's. Upon hearing this, someone made the comment that it might work, except that the 2nd Florida cop might have to make the 1st Florida cop go in at gunpoint. I thought it was a very unfair comment.

Actually he didn't even do that. The unarmed coach who shielded the students with his body (because he wasn't allowed to carry his gun at the school, because he wasn't a LEO) and died doing it was the one who actually confirmed it was gunfire, and where. At that school that day, the wrong people were armed and unarmed.deanimator wrote:The deputy wasn't a school shooting preventer.

Be fair. I'm sure that at SOME point after the event, he probably mentioned that he'd heard shooting.M-Quigley wrote:Actually he didn't even do that. One has to wonder if Deputy Peterson liked pulling people over for going a little over the speed limit, being all important and all, but was certainly not down for the LEO struggle.

The first news story I remember when I moved here from Apartheid Chicago in '86 was Cleveland cops refusing to respond to a race riot in which a Black woman and her children were besieged by her White neighbors who had previously tried to burn her home down, and were bombarding it with rocks, bottles and fireworks. It took a family friend with a 12ga. shotgun to break the siege.Mr. Glock wrote:One has to wonder if Deputy Peterson liked pulling people over for going a little over the speed limit, being all important and all, but was certainly not down for the LEO struggle.

Recall the videos of New Orleans cops looting (including stealing vehicles from dealerships) and deserting their posts after Katrina.

This is an anti-Piers post, and a pro citizen RKBA post, lest there be any question...
As we told you last night, the latest reporting on the Parkland, Fla. shooting suggest that 4 Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were on scene in the parking lot of Stoneman Douglas HS while Nikolas Cruz was killing his former classmates yet did nothing to engage him.
To the always awful Piers Morgan, this startling development of police misconduct is — wait for it — evidence that “good guys with a gun” can’t stop a killer and why we shouldn’t let teachers carry guns:
So FOUR 'good guys with a gun' were not able to stop the bad guy.
I think this kinda ends the 'arm the teachers' bullsh*t, don't you? https://t.co/hVHtw7negn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 23, 2018
But Piers really stepped in it. You see, the deputies didn’t break any laws. They may or may not have violated the BSO’s policies, but they can’t be prosecuted for doing nothing. Which Townhall’s Katie Pavlich educated Piers on with this brutal smackdown:
Actual proves the opposite. The deputies aren’t required by law to engage or protect individuals from harm and just proved government won’t always protect your life. When evil comes to your door, you are the last defense, especially in the classroom. https://t.co/srHusvODek" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The difference here is the officers were outside and could avoid a mass shooter...teachers are inside and can't avoid a mass shooter..so they would ingage when confronted.......or die.
