Shootout in CLE. it's like a bad action movie up in here.

Post by Bruenor »

Welcome to Cleveland. maybe I should start looking at body armour, trauma plates, and up-armouring my vehicle. sheesh. Sure wouldn't want to be caught in that crossfire.

The shootout happened about 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Convenient Food Mart on Euclid Avenue and Avalon Road.
Three cars pulled into the lot one after the other and surrounded the two SUVs. Two men got out and opened fire with an AK-47, the other with a handgun with an extended magazine clip, according to police reports.

The people in the SUVs returned fire, according to police reports. Someone in the red Jeep Compass tried to drive off during the attack, firing at the three cars.

The gunman kept firing at the SUV. Their bullets flew across Euclid Avenue and shattered the window of a Popeye's restaurant, police said.

The gunmen jumped back into their car and all three cars sped off, police reports say. None of those shooters have been identified and no other arrests have been made.

The Jeep drove a block down the street and turned into the Save-A-Lot grocery store parking lot. Police found a bloody loaded handgun with an extended magazine inside. The inside was covered in blood, police reports say. The outside was riddled with bullet holes, as was the SUV that remained in the convenience store parking lot.

50 rounds fired and only a graze wound?

No doubt some or all of the recovered DNA is already in the system. In a few days the SWAT team will surround grandma's house and kick the door in and lil DinSeeNuffin will come limping down the hall on his crutch. Upon intense questioning he'll say it was a beef his friend, DinDoNuffin had with some guy named Tony.

And round and round the world goes.

That we know of. Clevelanders have been known to be pretty ingenious when it comes to disposing of inconvenient bodies in close quarters. DinDoNuffin's next door neighbors, known as Auntie and DinSmellNuffin will just pay it no mind.

Two men inside the home suffered gunshot wounds, police said. One of the men injured in that shooting, Joseph King Jr., 38, is the father of a teenager acquitted of murder charges in connection with a 2016 fatal shooting of Phillip Banks, 19, at an anti-violence rally in Euclid the day before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Investigators noted in police reports that the man's son was likely the intended target of the shooting.

Surveillance video from this incident has been released.

Cleveland police have released surveillance footage of a gangland-style drive-by shooting from February in which small children were nearly gunned down in the crossfire.
Camera footage of the shooting shows three cars pull into the parking lot and the occupants inside open fire on the two vehicles. A man and two children who just exited the store were mere feet from where the bullets ricocheted off the building's walls.

A different camera angle shows the three cars drive into the parking lot and open fire on a Mazda Tribute and a Jeep Compass. The front passenger of one of the cars can be seen shooting a handgun out of the window while the rear passenger fires what appears to be an assault rifle at the Jeep as it flees the area.

A passenger of the Mazda is seen on camera shooting back at the three cars as they drive off. A few moments later, the passengers of the Mazda get out of the vehicle and jump into another car that pulled up. The occupants of the Mazda were shown on video all armed with handguns.

It's really just like any other metro area - it depends on exactly where you are.

That's the South Collinwood/Euclid-Green area.

6:30 PM is a little early in the evening for shenanigans, but that's an area of Cleveland where my even my Black friends - several of whom who grew up in less-than-gret areas of the city, no less - say that they wouldn't frequent. "Allen, brah, you can't go there!" they will exclaim (I'm always in search of the next best soul-food joint or other hole-in-the-wall ethnic eatery), only half-jokingly.

I always remind them that I came away unscathed from years in East Baltimore, and they just roll their eyes at me.
