Officers went to the 1000 block of McCormick, preparing for a hostage situation and they “got into position,” he said.

“A male came to the front door,” Livingston said. “As he came to the front door, one of our officers discharged his weapon.”
Wow. Just... Wow.

A 25-year-old man was arrested in South Los Angeles on Friday night in connection with an alleged "swatting" prank that resulted in a police-involved fatal shooting in Kansas, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Tyler Barriss of Los Angeles, KABC-TV reported. They say Barriss is suspected of making a hoax phone call to police in Wichita, Kan., that resulted in the death of an innocent 28-year-old man.

I may be wrong but if he was black they would be all over the news and rioting!
Sad and all wrong.

There should be a point where there is a clear danger before police shoot. Sure, in some cases things happen fast and there is little time to process information. In this case, however, the “bad guy” is so outnumbered and the police have adequate cover.

If it were a hostage situation why would he so readily open the door?

Cops have shot hostages in the past.

A man convicted of making false bomb threats to ABC7 in 2015 is the same person who has been arrested in connection with a hoax call that led to a Kansas home where an innocent man was fatally shot by police, authorities said.

In October 2015, Tyler Raj Barriss was charged with two felony counts of false report of a bomb to a business, one felony count of criminal threats, and one misdemeanor count of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The threats to the ABC7 building in Glendale occurred on Sept. 30 and Oct. 9 of that year, resulting in evacuations and searches by police and K-9 units. No bombs were found.

The Glendale Police Department confirmed that Barriss, the suspect in the Kansas "swatting" incident, was sentenced to two years in L.A. County jail in the previous threat case.
Officers responded to the residence, and when a man opened the front door police told him to put his hands up and move slowly. The man, identified by relatives as 28-year-old Andrew Finch, allegedly moved his hand toward his waistband.

Fearing that Finch was reaching for a gun, an officer fired a single shot that struck the man, who turned out to be unarmed. Finch was transported to a hospital, where he died.

When they have cover and presumably have him in their sights, they should wait until a firearm is displayed. Just reaching “toward the waistband” should not be reasonable cause for shooting.

We here have a pretty high bar when it comes to when we might reasonably draw and shoot.

Odd, the released body cam footage, with audio, has no commands..it DOES have him stepping onto his porch, and being shot within seconds...

I guess we have to learn to treat LEOs just like pit bulls - dangerous creatures that may turn and hurt you at any time.

I've been doing that for years.

This just reinforces that.
