Used gasoline instead of diesel as an accelerant. fumes probably flashed when he lit it.

Well, he got 30 days. Wonder how the civil suit will go.

As schmieg had foretold:
Sen. Rand Paul is suing his neighbor who admitted to tackling Rand as he mowed his yard. The Bowling Green Daily News reports the Friday complaint seeks compensatory and punitive damages from neighbor Rene Boucher for "physical pain and mental suffering" from the November assault.

SNIP

The lawsuit charges that Paul "has been deprived of his enjoyment of life" and left with an increased likelihood of injury and disease. It also asks to prevent Boucher from contacting the Paul family or Boucher "will continue ... the pattern of stalking and harassment."

Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of congress and was sentenced this month to 30 days in jail and a $10,000 fine.
What about the mental suffering over being nearly killed by a person named Rene?

A man is accused of threatening to chop up U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and his family with an ax.

The man has been arrested. He allegedly called in the threats to Paul's Bowling Green office.

Paul mentioned the attack publicly at an event in Litchfield, Kentucky, on Monday.

"Capitol Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man who threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an axe," Paul said. "It's just horrendous that we have to deal with things like this."

Capitol Police declined to comment because the investigation is ongoing.

This marks one of several threats and attacks Paul has had in the last year. More than a year ago, Paul was on the baseball diamond when James Hodgkinson opened fire and shot several congressional staffers as well as Rep. Steve Scalise, a Louisianna Republican.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was awarded more than $580,000 in damages and medical expenses on Wednesday in his lawsuit against the neighbor who tackled him and broke several of his ribs in a dispute over lawn maintenance.

A jury in Bowling Green, Kentucky, deliberated less than two hours before delivering the award to the Republican lawmaker who had been attacked while doing yard work at his Kentucky home.

The jury awarded $375,000 in punitive damages and $200,000 for pain and suffering, plus $7,834 for medical expenses.

Afterward, Paul said in a statement that he hoped the verdict would send a “clear message that violence is not the answer — anytime, anywhere.”

Boucher’s attorney, Matt Baker, said they would appeal.

Good for that jury. If appealed, I hope the award is doubled.
