It's possible this and the use of bump stocks actually saved lives. Had he taken care and aimed with decent optics and training, the death toll might have been worse.

*puts on tinfoil hat*

I saw a news report that said that many of his weapons were placed around the hotel room as if he were displaying them, on counters and shelves, etc. Most weren't in a position where you'd expect he would place them for easy access. Why would he have wanted to display a large collection of expensive rifles with no sights if he wasn't planning to use all of them? /foil_hat*

Sometimes a crazy person is just that... and there are no logical explanations.

Judge orders release of Las Vegas shooting autopsy reports

A District Court judge on Tuesday ordered the Clark County coroner’s office to release the autopsy reports of Stephen Paddock and the 58 people he killed in the Oct. 1 Las Vegas massacre.

But as of late Tuesday, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg had not complied with the order. He indicated he wouldn’t release Paddock’s autopsy report until it was “finalized.”

“I don’t believe this is consistent with what the court ordered,” said Las Vegas attorney Maggie McLetchie, who represents the Las Vegas Review-Journal and The Associated Press in their November action demanding the release of the reports. “They (the coroner’s office) have delayed this for too long, and whatever stage the coroner’s report on Paddock is in, it should be provided to the Review-Journal and Associated Press without further delay. No more games. Release the records.”

Review-Journal Editor-in-Chief Keith Moyer added: “The shooter’s body was cremated Dec. 21. How can the autopsy report not be ‘finalized’ when the body was cremated more than five weeks ago? The law is squarely on the side of the public’s right to open government.”
What's going on here? You'd think in such a high profile case where conspiracy theories can easily develop, its in everyone's interest to be as open as possible about what happened as soon as possible. Why would the coroner be playing these games?

I don't know how busy Vegas is, but I can say Hamilton county can easily take a month or more depending on time of year. At least here, there is only one coroner per county and they are the only one that can sign off. Depending on actual interest, they can delay the report for other more priority cases. Which would you want released faster? A guy that shot himself in the head or someone that died of unknown causes and the family wishes to know?

Authorities have charged Douglas Haig, 55, of Mesa Arizona with selling “armor-piercing ammunition” to Las Vegas killer Stephen Paddock according to court documents acquired by the Associated Press. Haig works full time as an aerospace engineer and part-time as a manufacturer of reloaded ammunition.

According to the court documents police also found unfired armor-piercing rounds within the hotel room. Law enforcement was able to lift a fingerprint off one of the armor-piercing cartridges. Douglas Haig matched that print and was named a person of interest in the case after law enforcement found his name, and address on a box that was in Paddock's possession.

According to the court papers, Haig made and sold ammunition as a hobby. The documents also state that Haig did not have the proper licensing from the ATF to manufacture armor-piercing ammunition. The records do not indicate if Paddock used any of the ammo in the actual attack.

Haig was not aware of what happened in Las Vegas until agents from the FBI and the BATF told him 11 hours after the events unfolded. According to his lawyer, he cooperated with investigators “without hesitation.” Haig said he was “horrified that this man would do something like that.”

Haig further claims that Paddock did not use his ammunition in the attack because he only sold him tracer rounds. Haig's lawyer said in the press conference that his client does not talk to the press to protect his reputation. He also stated that to the best of their knowledge none of the ammunition that Haig has sold in the past has ever been used in a crime.

Haig has since shut down has ammunition business. He plans to plead innocent to the charges.

Mandalay bay released their Surveillance video to the NYT showing the nutjobs movements during the week in which bellhops moved a total of 21 suitcases up to his room over the course of a week, as he gave away no indication of his plans.. I thought they said he snuck the suitcases to his room using the service elevator by himself, but this article indicates the bellhops did the carrying for him.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/22/us/l ... ddock.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Sometimes we see him as other hotel guests would have seen him: as the tall gambler intent on the video poker machine across the casino floor, or as the customer standing in line in front of you at the gift shop, buying snacks, or as the guy you briefly glance at as he waits for you to get off the elevator — polite, unhurried, unmemorable.

Sometimes we see him as the employees would have seen him, as the casually dressed V.I.P. with the many suitcases who jokes with bellhops, chats with valets and gives out tips along with handshakes. And sometimes we see him as only the surveillance cameras saw him — riding the elevator alone.
Watching the footage, nearly six months later, is a kind of compulsive ghost-hunting. In the antiseptic stare of the surveillance camera, even the most ordinary interactions are deformed, made weird only by what we know now. It is unnerving because it ends in the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. It is unnerving because even with his every movement laid out, the grotesquely composed protagonist of this film gives away nothing.

^ I can't find it, but there used to be a popular prank show on YouTube or TV where the guys roll up a mannequin in an oriental rug, and then bring it in through the front door of the hotel.

Not to be glib about this tragedy, but this show definitely illustrated the fact that, many times, people just did not care.......

A source within the Las Vegas FBI has informed this reporter that FBI Las Vegas Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Patrick “Rick” Brodsky will be retiring from the FBI at the end of April.

Brodsky has been working at the Las Vegas FBI Bureau for four years as an Assistant Special Agent under Aaron Rouse, the head of the FBI in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded to the Mandalay Bay shooting were ordered to turn their body cameras off before engaging with the shooting.

Video evidence released by the Department under court order by the Supreme Court shows the officers turning off their body cameras while superior officers gave them the order, adding more mystery to the still unexplained shooting that left 58 people dead.

SNIP

What the Body Cameras Show

In body-worn camera #1 from the night of the shooting, you see dozens of officers lining up in teams, “strike teams”, in preparation for identifying suspects and clearing the rooms of the hotels, businesses, and streets along the strip. The officer wearing the camera expresses frustration with the lack of training on carrying rifles, and is anxiously trying to nail down what radio communication they should be on. He lines up with some fellow officers as they are labeled with “Strike Team 4”.

Towards the end of the footage that is abruptly shut off, you hear a female officer walking down the line and confirming orders to all, repeating to each officer, “Camera off? Camera off?”, and just seconds after, the body-worn camera is shut down. In two separate body cams, #18 and #19, other officers are in the same vicinity and you can hear the direction given in this footage as well. It appears both officers had just activated their cameras, and then disengaged them based on the direction of the officer. Each video is a total duration of just over a minute. One final video evidencing the order of turning all cameras off is #23, lasting approximately 18:31, with the direction from the female officer occurring at about the 18:27 mark.

It is unknown who this officer was, however she seems to have been given a position of some authority that night while giving instructions to officers, instructions that blatantly disregard every model the LVMPD claims they support, stand for, provide, and believe in. What would be the purpose of directing the cameras to be off? Why would that be a focus as you are under attack? Why would cameras be ordered to be turned off during the largest mass shooting in modern US history?

Las Vegas, NV — Sadly, the more information we receive from the worst mass shooting in modern American history, the less coverage it gets by the mainstream media. Damning footage contradicting official timelines and LVMPD documents have surfaced and they barely register as a blip on the media’s radar.

After being forced to release information on the October 1 massacre, the Las Vegas police department—in an insultingly futile attempt at transparency—has been dumping information related to the shooting. In what appears to be a deliberate attempt to muddy the waters, much of the video released by the department has no time stamps and is provided without context.

Like all the previous footage, the latest body camera video to be released lacks a time stamp. However, because we know that Stephen Paddock — according to the official timeline and citizen videos of the incident — initially opened fire at 10:05 p.m. and did not stop shooting until 10:14 p.m., we now know that officers were inside the hotel and could’ve engaged him—contrary to what we’ve been told.

The new video puts officer Cordell Hendrex on location and only one floor below Paddock during the shooting. Hendrex and his rookie partner are seen on camera walking down the hall of the 31st floor as Paddock murders people on the ground below.

SNIP

“I know I hesitated and I remember being terrified with fear and I think that I froze right there in the middle of the hall for how long I can’t say,” Hendrex would later write in his report.

While the group cowers in fear, security gets over the radio and says, “We know where it’s at, the 32nd floor, room 135. Everyone else off the radio. I’m with Metro now.”

The group did not budge.

“We’re taking gunfire,” an officer on the ground says over the police radio. “It’s going right over our heads. We’re pinned down here with a bunch of civilians.”

Hendrex “once again hesitated” and “did not know what to do next,” according to his report.

“We can’t worry about victims,” a different officer can be heard broadcasting over police radio a few seconds later. “We need to stop the shooter before we have more victims. Does anyone have eyes on the shooter?”

That's right: MGM Resorts International has filed a new lawsuit claiming that it has no liability in any of the injuries or deaths in the October mass shooting in Las Vegas.

The company - which not only owns Mandalay Bay but also owns the venue across the street from the hotel where most of the victims were gathered for a country music festival - is suing more than 1,000 victims of the shooting. The lawsuits were filed in federal courts in Nevada and California, which one attorney representing the victims decried as an attempt to find a judge they like, according to the Daily News.
"I’ve never seen a more outrageous thing, where they sue the victims in an effort to find a judge they like," attorney Robert Eglet, who represented some of the victims, said. The attorney accused MGM of "judge-shopping" in federal court, rather than state court, where he believes any lawsuits should be filed.

"It’s just really sad that they would stoop to this level.” Eglet added that the lawsuit was "preemptive strike" to get the case heard in federal court instead of state court, which means MGM probably thinks it has a better chance of winning in federal court. He added that the decision is a "blatant display of judge shopping" that "quite frankly verges on unethical."
You can't defend yourself, and nobody else is liable, but you live in a "free" society.

Case closed no motive found.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... oting.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
After 10 months of research and questioning, authorities announced Friday they are closing their books on the case after determining there was no evidence of conspiracy or a second gunman.

However the investigation failed to determine the motive behind lone-wolf shooter Stephen Craig Paddock's killing spree upon a Las Vegas music festival on October 1, 2017.

In a final report published Friday, it's revealed that Paddock claimed he was sick and his own brothers believed he was 'paranoid and delusional'.
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Paddock was 'an unremarkable man' who showed signs of a troubled mind leading up the attack on the busy strip.

With the closure of the 10-month investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, no one else will be charged in connection with the shooting as Paddock acted alone.

Officials added the attack had no link to international terrorism.
Although the attack was determined to not be linked to international terror, hotel owner MGM Resorts International last month invoked a provision of a federal law enacted after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The company wants federal courts to qualify the shooting as an act of terrorism and to declare the company has no liability to survivors or families of slain victims.
