At least two people were killed and dozens wounded during a shooting at an outdoor music festival on the Las Vegas Strip late Sunday.

Dozens of patrol vehicles descended on the Strip after authorities received reports of an active shooter near the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Las Vegas police later said one suspect was "down" and they did not believe there were any other shooters.

Concert-goers reported seeing muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across Las Vegas Boulevard from the country music festival and the sound of what they described as automatic gunfire.

Twenty-six people were admitted to the hospital, University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said. Of those, at least two died, 12 were in critical condition and the rest were being evaluated, she said.

Sounds like possible automatic weapon but I won't speculate.
Supposedly LV SWAT raided a room on 32nd floor and shot suspect.

More details will be known eventually.
Probably workplace violence though.

Looks like we're up to 20 dead and 100 hurt.

A gunman opened fire late Sunday during a country music concert on the Las Vegas Strip, killing at least 20 and injuring more than 100, authorities said.

The news reports I've been reading so far is witnesses said it sounded like fireworks going off at first, until people realized what was going on. If you're on the 32nd floor and shooting down at thousands of people, you could get a lot of shots off and cause a lot of casualties before you were stopped, even with a semi auto firearm. He was allegedly only stopped after the police found out what room he was in, and made entry to the room. This gave him some time to continue shooting. Plus, of the reports of a hundred people injured, not all of them might've been from gunfire. There's at least one report of someone being trampled by people running away from the area. :(

50 dead, 200+ injured. Usually when they say 'automatic' gunfire, they're exaggerating. Not in this case, the video provided had the first burst of over 50 rounds off in about 6 seconds.

Now to figure out how and where he got such weapons or if he modified them.

Very sad.

NPR played a sound clip this morning. Definitely automatic fire. I don't think you could achieve that rate of fire with a bump fire stock, or the trigger crank.

The word is they now have Marilou in custody, now with some waterboarding, they'll get plenty of information out of her.

If Hillary was president, we'd have most semiautomatic rifles banned by the end of this week.

They found the shooter quickly because he fired so many rounds the smoke detector in his hotel room went off.

Indeed we get to see how much the Establishment/Swamp has captured the office of POTUS.
A bit premature to waive the victory flag in celebration, chum.

50+ dead and injured count up to 400 plus. Not believed to be terrorism, just a phsyco.
No doubt it was an automatic weapon, and they found 10 rifles in his room.
Poss. 2000-2500 shots fired !!
Also reporting the shooter took his own life.
I have cousins in Vegas, waiting to hear from them, hope they were not there.

I heard a blurb about needing blood donations. If you have any friends/family in the area, please contact them and ask them to go donate blood.

I'm not so sure about that.

I keep seeing references to far left ideology, a la the Scalise shooting.

Often, I seem to find more accurate reporting early on from foreign news sources that have "desks" here in the U.S. We'll see.

Voting to make it easier to buy noise suppressors for firearms seemed like a win for Republicans.

But when the National Rifle Association wasn’t present at a congressional hearing on the issue — which has been at the top of its legislative agenda for years — it signaled the GOP might be growing aware of the new optics surrounding the gun debate.

Indeed, what would have been an ugly partisan fight under ordinary circumstances has been made even uglier by recent events, including the Oct. 1 massacre at an outdoor music festival in Las Vegas that quickly became the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

The saga at the center of the gun lobby’s absence on Capitol Hill, however, occurred June 14, when the NRA’s federal affairs director was scheduled to testify at a hearing on the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement, or SHARE Act, a legislative package containing various land conservation programs and provisions aimed at supporting hunters, fishers, anglers and other outdoorsmen.

The Hearing Protection Act — the suppressor bill — is part of this package.

That same day, a gunman opened fire on the Republican baseball team practice in Alexandria, Va., injuring law enforcement personnel and congressmen, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La. The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands, along with every other panel, postponed activity as Capitol Hill confronted the tragedy.

On Sept. 12, the subcommittee’s hearing was back on. This time, however, a representative from the NRA was not among the list of witnesses.

SNIP

Still, having a highly political and deeply polarizing interest group appear at a congressional hearing might have undermined the message supporters are trying to spread about the Hearing Protection Act — specifically, that the bill is about public health.

“We could have named this something else, some acronym or something to focus on the suppressor,” said Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., the bill’s sponsor. “But really it’s about ultimately helping those who are hunters be able to protect their hearing and still enjoy their sport and be successful at it.”

SNIP

Meanwhile, the bill might be on its way to becoming even more unpalatable for Democrats, particularly following the Las Vegas shooting; Democrats will be sure to argue the tragedy underscores the need to strengthen background checks before loosening existing gun regulations.

It even could become stickier for Republicans.
Someone will blame me for highlighting the points this author made....so be it...
