Although the clerk missed from 5 feet, it's unknown whether the clerk was even trying to hit the customer, or firing some kind of warning shot. Regardless, it was fortunate that the bullet didn't hit some innocent person outside.

There was no statement from the stores owners either. Although the story called her a "clerk" at a lot of these places, they're family owned, and the clerk is actually one of the owners. Would they be required to have a CHL to carry concealed in their own store?

Yes. The exemption is in one's own HOME.
