shooting at a Columbus library

Although it doesn't mention the shooter being charged with a gun violation at this time, that by itself doesn't mean he had a CHL. Neither the written article nor the video states whether or not the shooter had a CHL, but that didn't stop the news lady in the video (around 1 minute) from wanting to point out the no guns sign and remind people that guns are strictly prohibited in the library. Another news woman then talks about the changes in Ohio law, and again reminds viewers that weapons are not allowed in the library. The reporting by either woman is irrelevant if the guy didn't have a CHL, unless the reporters are ignorant enough to think that someone who illegally shoots people and possibly carrying illegally anyway is going to give a ---- about violating the libraries no gun sign. The only people the no guns sign stops are the people who are the most likely to not do something illegal with a gun anyway. This guy only shot the one victim, and happened to surrender to security when confronted, but what about the next time? What if victims are at a branch where there is no security?

certainly does not look like a self defense shooting.
Steward said he shot at Thrasher after an argument near an elevator.
Steward told police he chased Thrasher through the second floor of the library with his handgun out.

It doesn't appear that way to me either. I posted the story because of the way it was reported on the video, reminding people that weapons aren't allowed in the library. (like how could this criminal not understand the libraries policy on guns? ) If only the reporters would've put this info out sooner, perhaps this crazy person wouldn't have brought a gun into a prohibited area and committed a crime with it.

Article about this in The Columbus Dispatch pointed out that he surrendered to "unarmed" security guards. So the security on hand was not really in a position to stop the shooter if he did not want to be stopped.

As a regular patron of the Columbus Library, I'm on their mailing list.

I received this missive yesterday, June 12:
A Message from Patrick Losinski, CEO
Columbus Metropolitan Library

Thank you to all of our customers, friends, colleagues and supporters who have expressed their concern and sent well wishes after the recent shooting at Main Library.

On Sunday, June 11, at approximately 3 p.m., gunshots were fired on the 2nd floor of Main Library during an argument between two customers. One customer was injured and transported to Grant Hospital, where he has been treated and released. The shooter was quickly subdued by our security staff and taken into custody by Columbus Division of Police, who arrived within minutes of the reported gunfire.

Our staff reacted in an extraordinary fashion to care for customers and each other. We thank them for their commitment to everyone’s safety in an extremely difficult situation.

We’re conducting a thorough review of our existing security procedures and protocols. We will continue to strive to provide the safe and welcoming environment you have come to expect in all of our locations.

Main Library opened today at 1 p.m. to a steady stream of customers and we are back to business in our community, as we have been for 143 years.
