NJ State Police Suing Sig Sauer

Post by bignflnut »

A $2.5 million lawsuit has been brought against firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer by the New Jersey State Police. In the lawsuit, the law enforcement agency alleges Sig Sauer of providing defective firearms for its state troopers and failing to fix the issue, despite multiple opportunities to do so.

SNIP

Sig Sauer thought the malfunction was from a faulty mold. After running a bunch of tests, they determined it was the barrel’s coating. They sent a new batch of barrels to the agency but the problem persisted.

SNIP

The problem was ultimately traced to the gun’s barrels but the state decided to return the guns in February of 2016.

SNIP

The state police spent $1.7 million for 3,000 Sig Sauer P229s and another $865,000 on holsters from another company. The agency wishes to be reimbursed for both costs, which they are out of.

I remember the NJSP experiencing much operator error when they bought HK P-7 handguns several years ago. You could say they were butthurt- -and leg hurt--by the negligent discharges.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

I am admittedly unfamiliar with LEO holsters, but do they really cost 50% of the price of the gun?

Depends on how many holsters they got. At my department, everyone is issued two holsters for their duty weapon, an on-duty and off-duty holster. Also, the 1.7 million for buying the firearms is a steal and most likely includes trade in cost. I don't know where anyone gets a Sig P229 for $566. Sure, $288 for two holsters is steep, but I'd have to see what they got and how many. High quality leather with level three retention isn't cheap.

If you Glock yourself in the leg with an HK P7 and you live through it, I want you sterilized and locked up as the danger to society that clearly you must be.

To the topic, does anyone else see "New Jersey" and instantly think "oh, this is not from the USA so it is likely not of my concern..." ot is that just me?
I like to swap brass... and I'm looking for .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, .380 Auto and 10mm. If you have some and would like to swap for something else, send me a note!

I changed planes in Newark on one trip. (Anybody remember People's Express Airlines? Cheapest ride to Florida.) Had like a three hour layover in the converted freight terminal PEA used. Got a taxi and had it take me to a cigar shop/lounge. Knew the place was owned by some retired LE, knew they carried so the visit would likely be safe.

Saw all the Joisey I ever want to in that evening.

People's Express had their hub in Newark. ALL their flights originated or ended there. But it was like $79 round trip from Columbus to West Palm Beach. Back then flying from Cincinnati was always very expensive.
